Tia’s Tacos is now closed.
After the wet and wild venture in Whangamata I really wanted some stability back in my life. I envisioned a job close to home with regular hours so I could create a life with routine and structure. I wanted to continue to work on my craft but I didn’t want to slave myself to the hospitality industry anymore. I have manifested the perfect job for myself. I have something I have been wanting for a long time. A team. A support system. A work family. Purposeful work.
I am so greatful for Tia’s Tacos. I was able to share my culture with New Zealand for 10 years with the taco truck. That was my mission. I am so proud of the menus I created. I am so proud of myself for the risks I took, my bravery, my courage, my ambition. Tia’s Tacos holds so much of who I am in it and through it I have gained so much.
I brought the business back to life many times over the last 5 years but it is time to let it go now.
For now, I will stick to my new role and enjoy the space I have to dream up the next venture sometime in future. If I do come back to owning a business again it will be in permanent location and I will have enough money behind me to invest into a work family to do it with me. The business will be purpose driven with some sort of empowerment undertone. I have always loved working with youth and being there for them to mentor and empower them. Maybe, I will develop a youth summer program involving food and culture.
Thank you to all my beautiful customers over the years, all my brides and grooms, and birthday boys and girls. Thank you for allowing me to be apart of your special days. Thank you to my casuals and temp staff for being apart of my mission to give New Zealand a new flavour experience. Thank you to my mama and husband for always having my back. Thank you to all my friends and family for your encouragement and support over the years.
Much love to you all,
Your Tia, Erica xx
