Julia Deans takes the Akarana Stage from 5:15 pm - 6:00 pm. Having first carved a path in local and international musical landscapes as the frontwoman for the early 2000s band Fur Patrol, Julia Deans has since secured her reputation as one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most celebrated musicians. Following the early success of 00’s Fur Patrol and their critically acclaimed album PET, Deans’s solo albums Modern Fables (2010) and We Light Fire (2018) earned nominations for coveted musical accolades the Taite Music Prize, the APRA Silver Scroll, and the NZ Music Awards. Playing Future Future’s Awa Stage from 2:30 pm to 3:15 pm, we have Fathe and the Sweetos! Playing deep from the heart, and influenced by music that makes you move, Fathe and the Sweetos mix afrobeat, disco, funk and traditional Ethiopian Rhythms.

Fathe, the lead vocalist and soul behind the band, is a talented performer and lyricist who, together with the Sweetos, creates an eclectic mix of poetry and sound. With each member bringing their own cultural influence, from India, Chile and Aotearoa, the band's songs are a testament to their ability to weave stories into catchy tunes and infectious rhythms, taking audiences on a journey of self-reflection and empowerment.

Get off your bike and onto your feet with DJ Chikaa on the DJ Stage at Future Future (12:00 pm- 1:30 pm). Bringing the vibe of celebration from many cultures to the dance floor, CHIKAA has been weaving a sound tapestry of global dimensions, bringing organic beats to festivals both in NZ and abroad since 2011.

Since starting out as a Radio DJ for a world music show Chikaa has continued her love of world music and electronic fusion, following the emerging South American new wave scene of folktronica and ethnic downtempo music

Introducing Future Future!

Future Future, a free music festival spanning a 3km stretch of the central-west bike paths is set to take place on 3rd February 2023, from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

With four stages of music, the day-long festival features a lineup including King Kapisi, Yoko-Zuna, julia deans, Rei Music, Anna Coddington, Lips, Fathe and the Sweetos, Phoebe Rings, Suzy Cato + Friends, fable nz, Pony Baby, Amandamania, wattsson music, DJ Chikaa, and Rewind Fields with more to be announced.

Alongside the finest musical acts and DJs Tāmaki Makaurau has to offer, Future Future also features a kai village to satisfy culinary cravings, a market of second-hand, sustainable and hand-made goods thanks to Central Flea Market, and free workshops including a drumming workshop with Kra KoTo Kra and a second-hand tie-dye t-shirt station. Free valet bike parking is available free on-site courtesy of Bike Auckland, and families are well catered for with face painting and activities to keep little hands and minds busy.

The inaugural Future Future festival is a celebration of arts and culture with sustainability at its heart. Shining a light on our shared paths, Future Future reminds us of the joys of getting around by bike.

Future Future is presented by Interesting Things Aotearoa and is free to attend thanks to our partners Auckland Transport and the Auckland Council Climate Grant.
