On Saturday, we gathered to remember my beautiful, smart, adventure-loving nephew who died from cancer a year ago.
It is difficult for me to write about it, but I want to encourage people to keep gathering, to keep the connection in whatever way is meaningful to them, to search for meaning, to be brave and acknowledge the hurt that equates to the love. It was an honour to be there on Saturday.

A bit more about the dog park wedding on Friday. What I loved about it the most was the sense of community there. Mel has 6 beloved chihuahua dogs that she takes for a walk every day at the Kaiapoi Small Dog Park. Her and her partner wanted a very low-key, simplest of ceremonies where their dogs could be happily involved. On Friday morning, everyone who knows Mel turned up to walk their dogs at exactly the time that the wedding was to take place (how did they know?!) and the vibe was awesome. The sun was shining, little dogs running around everywhere, treats for them afterwards, pens handed out with the wedding date commemorated (I'm using mine right now).
It is these kind of occasions that make my heart sing as a celebrant. I grinned all the way home.

In the world of weddings, trends come and go, A LOT it may seem! But remember, your wedding is about celebrating you both as a couple, not following a rulebook or curating social media content. Whatever the trend may be, don't feel pressured to follow every single one or any at all!

Instead, plan your wedding in a way that reflects who you are as a couple. If a particular trend aligns with your vision, go for it! But if not, that's perfectly fine, too. Focus on what makes you happy, what feels genuine and authentic - because being in the moment and soaking up those wedding emotions with the people who mean the most to you is what it's all about.
