Takapuna Boating Club Join us on the stunning Takapuna beachfront for fantastic sea views and world-class facilities. We put on a many social events throughout the year.

Takapuna Boating Club is an active club in the heart of Takapuna with a range of sporting and social activities throughout the year. We have a large number of sailing and paddling - surfski, SUP and waka ama- members, as well as a large social membership, who all make the most of our prime beachfront location on Takapuna Beach, easy access to the water, and range of membership benefits. Our active

members use the club to take part in their chosen water sport, with other like-minded people. Members regularly gather throughout the week to get out on the water together, both recreationally and to train. With storage available for dinghys, surfskis, SUP, wakas and boards, and hot showers, changing rooms and great facilities to enjoy afterwards, it couldn't be easier to get on the water at Takapuna,

We offer regular racing for sailors and paddlers all year round, as well as a range of training and development options to help our members improve and develop their skills. TBC has hosted numerous world and national championships in recent years. We provide opportunities for people in the community to get involved in these activities with regular "Have a Go" days and courses available. And we have SUPs, Surfskis and sailing dinghies available for our members to use. We are also a home base for the North Harbour Triathlon Club, the Taniwha Outrigger Club and the Piha Surf Lifesaving Club. These affiliated clubs all use our facilities to meet up, train and race. The social and community aspects are a vital part of our club and our members use the club as a place to meet their friends and families, experience our stunning beach venue and get involved in the community. Our club is open regularly for members and non-members to enjoy the club's facilities, and receive membership discounts on food and drinks at our bar. Takapuna Boating Club is a great club to belong to, whether you are competing on the water, helping as a volunteer, or using our superb location to meet up with friends and family.

Time: 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM
Duration: 4 weeks
What’s Included: Surfskis, life jackets, and expert coaching
Why Join? A fun and active way to enjoy the water!

🏄‍♀️ Junior Learn to Paddle
When: Sundays, starting 23rd February
Time: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Duration: 6 weeks
Who: Kids aged 8–12 years
What’s Included: Surfskis, life jackets, and accredited coaches
Why Join? A fantastic introduction to paddling in a safe and supportive environment!

⛵ Adult Learn to Sail
When: Saturdays, starting 1st March
Time: 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM
Duration: 5 weeks
What’s Included: RS Quest dinghy boats and expert instruction
Why Join? Perfect for beginners to learn the basics of sailing and build confidence on the water!

Our two one-week sailing courses this week have been an absolute blast! We've enjoyed amazing weather, with a mix of calm days and some challenging wind conditions to keep things exciting. Everyone has had a fantastic time out on the water, building skills and making memories. 💪🚣‍♂️

Holiday Cheer from Commodore Wendy Baker!
As the year draws to a close and we look forward to the festive season—and a well-deserved break for many—I want to extend my thanks to all our members, volunteers, and staff for their incredible support throughout 2024.

It was a pleasure to host our first Volunteers’ Appreciation Event last week, recognising the invaluable contributions of those who assist us on the water, on land, and across our facilities, including the Takapuna Boat Ramp and Bayswater.

Looking ahead to 2025, we have an exciting year planned for the club. Our social programme has been refreshed, on-the-water activities continue to grow (with interest from fishing enthusiasts, beach walkers, and ocean swimmers), and our volunteer programme is gaining momentum. We’re also focused on securing grants for club equipment,revitalising our sponsorship initiatives, and creating new opportunities for the local community to connect with the club.

A significant development this year has been the progress of the proposed Amendment Bill related to the Bayswater clubhouse. With support from our local MP, Simon Watts, the Bill passed its first reading in Parliament and is now under review by the Governance and Administration Select Committee. The club submitted both written and oral submissions in late November, and we anticipate further updates in the first quarter of 2025.

As you celebrate the festive season with family and friends, please take care—whether you’re travelling or enjoying time on the water. And if your New Year’s resolutions include becoming more active or involved at the club, we’d love to hear from you!

What a fantastic day on the water! All four quests were out sailing, joined by James in his 3.7 sailboat. We enjoyed a scenic sail up to Castor Bay, where Andrew Snell generously treated everyone to a delicious homemade picnic lunch.

The return sail offered perfect conditions, making for an enjoyable journey back. To top it all off, everyone gathered in the Members Bar for drinks and pizza, rounding out a memorable day.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us – we can’t wait for the next adventure!

Spring Series Finale & Mystery Sail Announcement

This Sunday marks the final racing day of our Spring Series, and we’d love to see as many of you as possible on the water! All new sailors are welcome to join in the fun and camaraderie. Remember arrive by 11.30pm to be on the water by 12.30pm. Our boating committee will keep you updated on this group.

Looking ahead, Sunday, 15th December, brings our Mystery Destination Sail, an exciting extension of our Sunday club afternoons.

To make the end of the year extra special, the Members’ Bar will be serving Italian pizza on the last few Sundays of 2024! Start with a Margherita base and customize it with your favorite toppings.

As well as our members’ draw jackpot tonight, we’re also launching a whitebait burger special to our club night menu: whitebait fritter, red and white cabbage, lemon and herb tartar in lightly toasted Daily Bread bun. Loaded wedges and mushroom burger also new mainstays.
