Dearest Gentle Reader,
The Country Ball is less than 6 weeks away and the ladies of Hemsworth Estate are certainly preparing for a festive occasion with their selection of libations. Where else might you be served vintage wines this summer season pray tell?

These ladies are eager indeed to out-do theirselves on almost every level. It's exhausting simply to report on their efforts. This author will need to fortify herself to report on the evenings events.

An evening of plenty? For some, as not all the Ton has reserved their attendance. If you desire to attend, let me advise you to make haste lest your chance slip through your fingers.

The Inspiration behind Camp Hemsworth, our luxury summer camp for women that's starting next week!

Hi, I’m Rebecca. The fourth generation of my family to call Hemsworth Estate home. I’ve been an event planner for over a decade and in 2018, my mum and I opened Hemsworth Estate to the public to create their own memories.

We take inspiration from all over the world for our events, New Zealand is often behind on the world market, leaving us with FOMO when it comes to new ideas. We have previously hosted a Bridgerton ball, themed tea parties and our Bed and Breakfast receives rave reviews.

We also create the kind of events we would want to go to ourselves. Earlier in the year, I saw a camp at a chateau in France specifically designed for women and immediately wanted to pack my bags. As like most of us with commitments and a full life, spending a summer in France is unattainable without extreme planning and a hefty savings balance. So, why not host one closer to home? Camp Hemsworth became a new date on the calendar.

Now more than ever, we know female friendships are the lifeblood of our mental and physical wellbeing and making new friends as an adult is not easy. At Camp Hemsworth, we aim to bring women together in an effortless, intimate space for you to “just be” no matter your social battery.

Slowing down is not in my nature, but I still have a craving to do things the slow way. Experimenting in my kitchen, growing our own food, and generally just “giving it a go” has built new skills that will form the basis of the activities on offer at the camp.

But this is not just my camp. It’s yours. The brave women who attend will have the opportunity to shape this camp experience, voting for their preferences of activities, sharing their hopes for the weekend, and we will aim to bring those hopes to reality.

Afternoon Tea is back! ☕ This year, thanks to your feedback and our busy schedule, afternoon tea will be held mid-week on Wednesdays from 1:00-4:00pm.

Need the details? Read on 👇
🕰 Arrive anytime between 1:00pm and 3:30pm (we will close at 4:00pm)
📞 No need to book but please do call ahead if you have dietary requirements or a group of 5 or more.
🌹 Choose your own table in Morning Room or call to reserve an outdoor table in warm weather.
☕ Be served a fresh pot of french press coffee, or a pot of tea of your choice.
🍰 Choose from a selection of seasonal cake, biscuits and tea sandwiches available for purchase. (Altogether your total won’t be more than $20 per person.)
🐾 Spend the afternoon catching up with your group, take a wander around the gardens and take a small tour around the Homestead. (You might even get to meet Willow, the puppy!)
🛎 When you’re ready to leave, pay via cash, bank transfer or credit card.

Available on 15th, 22nd and 29th January 2025 and we'll let you know available dates for the next month just before the month begins.

[FROM WILLOW 🐾] What a busy, exciting and amazing time of year! Our Christmas Display is closed now but it was so fun to see everyone explore the gardens, especially the dogs and little ones who played on the rocking reindeer! We're so happy you came to visit!

It's not over for the Christmas Display, because as soon as we closed yesterday, my mum Jema started whisking the display over the garden in front of our cottage to surprise Rebecca. She was very surprised to see our garden turn into a little Christmas Display for us.

There's also a new addition to Hemsworth Farm just in time for Christmas. Belle our white chicken, just hatched one baby chick! The chick is very sweet and fun to watch them chirp and explore the farm together. But I can't get too close or Belle will peck at me!

I'm very excited for Christmas today, I've been helping my mum Rebecca do all the preparing of yummy things in the Kitchen. And I hear there's extra special treats planned for Yve and me.

Plus there's the wrapping paper! Is there anything truly more fun than tearing up wrapping paper? I really don't think there is. I told Santa Paws I have been very good (even though I have been sneaking into the sheep pens to snack on their poops...) so hopefully I get spoilt rotten today!

My mums say I should especially thank you for all your support this year. Without you choosing to make memories at Hemsworth Estate, my mums wouldn't be able to spoil me so much! So thank you very very much! We all wish you a Merry Christmas and can't wait to see you again in the new year.

Built in the early Edwardian era, Hemsworth Estate truly stops time. For over one hundred and thirty years it has been a space to enjoy, grow up and celebrate including milestone birthdays, and weddings for over three generations.

Five minutes from Ashburton and only an hour away from Christchurch, Hemsworth Estate is one of the closest retreats for any private occasion. Set on fifty eight acres of land, and originally the first Hampshire Sheep endeavors in the country, the family has enjoyed it’s private, nurturing respite with only the sounds of nature to interrupt.

Hemsworth Estate seems to be designed for celebrating. Set in a sheltered circle of centennial trees, the lawns and gardens are open and inviting for any kind of event. From a large gathering to a small intimate celebration, we have created various spaces to cater to any event. There are five choices available to host your celebration – The Lawn, The Garden, The Greene, The Dining Room and The Drawing Room. Starting from an intimate party of ten and catering all the way up to three hundred, there is a celebration for everyone at Hemsworth. All that’s required is your special idea.

Margie Hulse is the third generation to be the steward of the property. Based in Christchurch, as a Business Strategist and Coach, Margie added a new project to her life and has been working tirelessly on the renovation so see it return to its former Edwardian glory.
