A different pace today. We managed to get front row seats at the lovely Ruth's Jazz concert today featuring Douce Ambiance At Violinos Music Farm, Ashburton's hidden musical treasure. We feel very cultured after an Afternoon of live music and really happy to be off our feet after such a busy week.

What's a 🌼 summer camp 🌼 for women like?

This is our first Camp Hemsworth so we'll be experiencing it fresh alongside this intimate group of women, but we can tell you what we envision 👇

🛎️ You'll arrive on Friday afternoon, get checked in and have free time to explore the estate and get settled.

🥂 You'll meet everyone on the Verandah for Apertivo followed by a casual alfresco dinner. Here we'll introduce everyone, host a few gentle icebreakers and set out the itinerary for the weekend.

🔥We'll end the evening with smores by the outdoor fire, or welcome the introverts to curl up in the drawing room with a good book.

☕️The next morning will see you in the dining room for breakfast. There's no set time, just seat yourself in the two hour window that should appeal to both early birds and those who need coffee before people.

🎨After breakfast, you'll enjoy your first activity. All activities are optional and you will have a range of both self-led and supervised options.

🧺Lunch will be served picnic style in the Rose Garden.

🍏You'll have another choice of activities in the afternoon as well as free time to relax before meeting again on the verandah for Apertivo and to share what you've experienced today.

🍽️ Saturday Night's Dinner will be a show-stopping 3 courses in a lavish setting (but we're not giving anything away just yet!) followed by an outdoor movie.

🫖 Finally, Sunday morning will be a relaxed affair with self-served breakfast, a final activity before a farewell brunch to celebrate your time at Camp Hemsworth.

The Inspiration behind Camp Hemsworth

Hi, I’m Rebecca. The fourth generation of my family to call Hemsworth Estate home. I’ve been an event planner for over a decade and in 2018, my mum and I opened Hemsworth Estate to the public to create their own memories.

We take inspiration from all over the world for our events, New Zealand is often behind on the world market, leaving us with FOMO when it comes to new ideas. We have previously hosted a Bridgerton ball, themed tea parties and our Bed and Breakfast receives rave reviews.

We also create the kind of events we would want to go to ourselves. Earlier in the year, I saw a camp at a chateau in France specifically designed for women and immediately wanted to pack my bags. As like most of us with commitments and a full life, spending a summer in France is unattainable without extreme planning and a hefty savings balance. So, why not host one closer to home? Camp Hemsworth became a new date on the calendar.

Now more than ever, we know female friendships are the lifeblood of our mental and physical wellbeing and making new friends as an adult is not easy. At Camp Hemsworth, we aim to bring women together in an effortless, intimate space for you to “just be” no matter your social battery.

Slowing down is not in my nature, but I still have a craving to do things the slow way. Experimenting in my kitchen, growing our own food, and generally just “giving it a go” has built new skills that will form the basis of the activities on offer at the camp.

But this is not just my camp. It’s yours. The brave women who attend will have the opportunity to shape this camp experience, voting for their preferences of activities, sharing their hopes for the weekend, and we will aim to bring those hopes to reality.

This is your gentle reminder that you don't have to rush the seasons. While Rebecca loves Christmas, there's something so beautiful about the last month of spring. The peonies are out, the elderflower is ripe for harvest, and the blooms of irises, lupins and geraniums are so bright and cheerful.

We purposely schedule our Spring Garden Party in November to make sure we make the most of the spring season before turning to Christmas festivities.

We are so lucky to have so much to look forward to as the weather gets warmer in the southern hemisphere so we encourage you not to rush. You are not behind if it's already the 3rd of November and your tree isn't up.

Over the past year, we've kept a secret (rather poorly, we might add). We've added our own stamp to Hemsworth Estate by building a cottage!

This will allow us to open back up the lovely Wallace Suite for Bed and Breakfast guests, and we very much look forward to learning what Work/Life balance is.

We'll share the details over the coming weeks of our journey building, and who made it all happen but for now, we're enjoying sitting on the cottage verandah having our morning coffee, evening cuddles with Yve and Willow and learning how to make magic in a new kitchen.

🕰 Arrive anytime between 2:00pm and 3:30pm (we will close at 4:00pm)
📞 No need to book but please do call ahead if you have dietary requirements or a large group.
🌹 Choose your own table outside near the rose garden or in the newly opened Morning Room.
☕ Be served a fresh pot of french press coffee, or a pot of tea of your choice.
🍰 Choose from a selection of seasonal cake, biscuits and tea sandwiches available for purchase. (Altogether your total won’t be more than $20 per person.)
🐾 Spend the afternoon catching up with your group, take a wander around the gardens and take a small tour around the Homestead. (You might even get to meet Willow, the puppy!)
