Hi everyone! I am proud to be a Trustee and volunteer for Story Store, a charitable trust which collects excellent quality second hand children’s books, and donates them to under-resourced school libraries that need them.

On this date a year ago, I opened my front door expecting to see a Registry wedding couple and their two witnesses, and instead… there was Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, a young Jedi and a Stormtrooper. ​​​​​​​​

[ KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE!] Did you know, when you get married you will sign two pieces of paper during the ceremony. Your Particulars of Marriage record the who, where and when of your big day and while you just scribble your signature under your column details, your witnesses have a bit more work to do. Once I have signed my name as well, I will pop your paperwork in this bright blue envelope for you to take home. You don't have to do anything with it, other than keep it somewhere safe. [ FAMILY ] How can it be a whole year ago? Happy anniversary dear Ella and Robbie! Your beautiful little wedding was all about family, and it was so much fun! (It was also the first time I have "left" a couple to it while they shared their vows, and entertained their toddler!) You completely embraced it and went with the flow, and it was all just perfect. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Happy 1st anniversary.

[ CALM ] The only reason I look even faintly concerned in this pic is because it was windy, there are actual burning candles in those glass jars, and that white floor I am standing on is a tad slippery.... but as I always told my celebrant students, you have to have 360-degree vision and be calm on the exterior, even if your inner voice is saying "eeeeeeek!"​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Plus, my dress matches the flowers. So there's that to ponder!

[ HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ] Congratulations Alisa and Cam, a year of love and laughter and family has sped by. Your ceremony wasn't without the odd hiccup - or should we say teething problems - and it’s the only time I’ve ever lost a groom’s vows in the wind and said “sh*t” in a ceremony… but we got there and it was "perfectly you". ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

[ FUSION ] Sometimes it will be important to couples to actively include their culture or religion in their personalised ceremony. When Aruna and Tialata asked whether I could marry them, and then have her father, a Pasifika Minister, lead the congregation in prayer, of course I said yes. Not only was it what their whanau needed and wanted, but it was a new opportunity for me to learn and expand my knowledge of ritual and ceremony.
