Alright, it’s time to spill some wedding planning secrets that no one ever talks about! So after a decade in the industry, what goes down behind the scenes I hear you ask?

Part ONE…

⛔ Pinterest dreams vs actual reality: the Pinterest board is fire, but remember, those elaborate setups cost a great ton of $$$. Have a clear budget before getting too carried away and ending up in the dreaded Pinterest Rabbit Hole.

⛔ The guest list drama: So, you all thought making a guest list was easy? Think again. Balancing family expectations, those long-lost cousins, and friends from every chapter of life… it is kinda like an Olympic sport, I swear!

⛔ Vendors really do matter: Your photographer, caterer, and DJ are everything. Trust me, you will remember how they made you feel on the big day. Take time to find ones that vibe with your vision.

Do you really run your business like a business?

It’s straightforward. When you treat your business with the respect it deserves, others will too.

Are you someone who struggles with saying “no” to avoid conflict or hurt feelings? You’re not alone.

In the early years of my business, I frequently said “yes” to things I didn’t really want to do, even though they cost me money, took away my profits, and wasted my time. It seemed easier than saying no.

However, the truth is, sometimes it’s better to just say “no.” If an opportunity or person doesn’t align with your core values or brand, it’s okay to politely decline.

When you take your business seriously, others will follow suit, and you’ll also build confidence in yourself and what you offer.

Well-being..

Many people can overlook this topic especially when running their own business. It is important to take a break, not only during the day but when you are in the off-season. Your mental health is just as important, as your physical.

Schedule regular breaks when working.

Take a moment each week to look after yourself, if this just is a bath or sitting down to watch a movie, it does not have to be huge.

Wellbeing does cover your emotional health and lets us be honest it can be a competitive world out there. Social media can flood your day with gorgeous images, behind the scenes, and insights into other people’s ‘day’. If something or someone you follow on the likes of social media does not have a positive effect on you then unfollow, unfriend, and delete. There is nothing worse than opening your phone to then feel down or bad about yourself and your business.

How do you set your boundaries?

Include these in your terms and if you are confident enough to do so, run through your contract with them verbally before they sign on.

Create habits.

If you set boundaries regarding working at night, make sure you stick to them. If you set working hours from 9 am - 3 pm and you are noticeably clear on this, avoid breaking your own rules. This may apply to the likes of social media. You may choose to use it at set times or limit the use on weekends and evenings.

This will look different for everyone, and I am not going to lie this subject is super easy said than done so do not be too hard on yourself. It can take years to find your boundaries, as creative business owners we want to give it our all and that is awesome.

Boundaries and limitations in your creative business... 🤍

As a new or even established business owner, we get that you are excited to put everything you have into your work, your clients, and your marketing presence.

But when is it too much? When do you become a 24/7 Wedding chat line or help desk?

Once you start to blur the lines you are opening yourself up to hours of unpaid advice. A doctor does not offer free treatment to someone they meet in a supermarket and neither should you provide advice “out of hours”.

To establish yourself as a professional you need to act as a professional and set some boundaries both, for yourself, and your client. I am not going to lie, when you first start your business, you will spend hours working in and on your business. They call it a ‘side hustle’ for a reason because let's be honest, we work hard, we work long hours and we put in the effort to get the maximum results and to be fair, we all continue to hustle hard no matter how long you have been doing it for.

☠️Four things to give zero hoots about, or maybe you just needed to read this today?

❌ Do not waste your energy on what other people are doing in their business

❌ Ignore perry industry politics

❌ Stop looking at competitor's every move rather than looking at your own strategy

❌ Negative opinions from other people who are not even your target audience.

It doesn't matter what service or product you offer, being in business can be hard. It's so important to look in your own backyard and focus on what you are doing.

Let's talk about strengths and weaknesses.
Sounds pretty confronting right?

But straight up, you have got to know what you excel at and what areas you need to work on. Some may say “nothing, I am perfect”.
Ok sure, high five gf, good for you.

Time to grab a pen and paper or simply open your mobile phone notes app. There is no excuse. Start with your strengths.

💫 List 3 of your best strengths, what are you good at?

💫 List 3 of your weaker areas, areas where you could improve.

For me, mine is spelling and grammar. Like honestly I am no English teacher and I so very much appreciate good old spell check and apps like Grammarly.

What's the point in all of this you ask?
Being able to recognise your strengths is important, know where you can excel, and know what you can grow and strengthen even more. Know what you can rely on.

On the other hand, looking at your not-so-strong areas will allow you room to grow, pivot or be able to further educate yourself, which is exciting.

If we were all experts then wouldn't life be boring?

Oh hey, I'm back…. Let me tell you why… It's been a hot minute since I jumped on the Wedding Training Hub socials and here's why… I was in a funk, let's be super honest here. I felt like social media was a space that I didn't like, I wasn't finding joy in being here. So I let it be. Gave it some time. Felt like I had some space - suppose you could say a break. For the past few weeks, I have thought about why I felt like this and what could I do. So things are changing around here.
