Twenty Aviation Security Supervisors from the National Airports Corporation (NAC), Air Niugini, and PNG Air have successfully concluded a two-week intensive training program in Port Moresby.
The purpose of the training is to enhance the participants' knowledge and skills, ensuring they can effectively supervise and monitor the implementation of aviation security preventative measures within their respective organizations, through the application of relevant competencies required for security supervisors.
Participants attained certificates today (Wednesday 29th January 2025), upon completion of the course, and are confident in applying the new knowledge and skills received.
Dominic Kaumu, the Acting Managing Director of NAC, emphasized the importance of such trainings in addressing the rapidly evolving threats and risks to aviation security. He stated, "The nature of threats to aviation is constantly changing, making it crucial for us to conduct these trainings regularly to keep our knowledge, skills, and information updated in line with international aviation security standards."
The training course was officially opened by the Acting High Commissioner of New Zealand, Charlie Gillard. Gillard highlighted the collaborative effort between NAC, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Papua New Guinea (CASA PNG), and the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand.
"For New Zealand, this is another example of a strong PNG-New Zealand partnership. This course is funded through our Pacific Aviation Security Program, which operates across the region. It is designed to work in partnership with Pacific countries to strengthen aviation security," he explained.
The Training was conducted by instructors Desh Naidoo and Harry Grewal from the Aviation Security Training Centre (ASTC) in New Zealand.
The last Aviation Security supervisor’s training was held in 2018 at the Port Moresby International Airport. NAC and partners are exploring other aviation related courses through the PNG – New Zealand Partnership program
