Narinig ko kay kuya sa isang shop kanina, ang tawag niya dito ay stereo 🤔

Alam mo ba na ang plug ay pwede maging stereo, at pwede din maging mono,

Difference: A mono signal uses just one audio channel and a stereo signal uses two audio channels: the left and the right (mostly yung black and red)

*This plug in the photo is a “balanced” PL plug. At iba pa yung tinatawag na unbalanced. 🙂 more sharing tayo next time..

mga sirr, as long as possible, make it a habit to position your house speaker right.

House speakers should always be in front of the stage (performance area) to avoid feedback. 🔊

Which amplifier is right for your speakers?

It's important to choose an amplifier that's well suited to power your speakers. This will help us:

✅ Ensure the best sound quality possible
✅ Help protect your equipment (both speaker and amplifier)

But what factors should you consider when choosing amplifiers once you have selected your speakers?

1. IMPEDANCE (ohms)
- Look for the nominal impedance of your speaker (at the back of your unit, or in the technical specs)

Impedance is the resistance to electricity: the higher number of ohms, the electricity has trouble getting through (less number of ohms means electricity runs through easily).

*Match your speakers' ohms to the ohms your amp can handle.

2. POWER (watts, W)
- Look for the continuous/power capacity/RMS/program of your speaker

Generally you should pick an amplifier that can deliver power equal to twice (some say "or at least an additional 50%") your speaker’s program/continuous power rating. This means that if your speaker has a “nominal impedance” of 8 ohms and an "RMS power" of 350 watts will require an amplifier that can produce 700 W (or 350 x 1.5 = 525 W) into an 8 ohm load. For a stereo pair of speakers, the amplifier should be rated at 700 W (or 525 W) per channel into 8 ohms.

IMPORTANT: Using an amp with some extra “headroom” will help assure that only clean, undistorted power gets to your speakers. Headroom is the difference between the normal operating level of an amplifier, and the maximum level that the amp can pass without distorting. Music has wide variations in dynamic range; without enough headroom, you’ll find that your gear will easily clip and distort.

NOTES:
- Too much power (amp) makes it possible to exceed the limitations of the speaker. On the other hand, choosing an amp that can't supply enough power is actually more likely to cause damage (because you might have the tendency to turn it up which will result in clipping or distortion).
- The best way to prevent damage and get the best sound quality possible is to choose speakers that are designed to provide adequate Sound Pressure Level (SPL) for your application.

Passive vs Active Speakers

In the simplest terms, an active speaker is one that has its own amplifier built into the cabinet. A passive speaker draws its power from an external amp and is connected to that amp via speaker wire.

If you’re building a large, complex sound system, passive speakers are great. Because of the immense level of power these systems require, having separate amplifiers and speakers allows custom designs tailored to the venue’s needs. And unencumbered access to the amplifier ensures easy maintenance (scaling walls and climbing rafters every time you need to make an amplifier adjustment is not fun). But if you’re a gigging musician and managing your own sound system, you should look into powered speakers.

Passive Speaker Benefits
✅ Less wires and easier to place
✅ Easier to upgrade/replace amp
✅ Usually lighter weight

Active Speaker Benefits
✅ Amp and speaker are designed to go together
✅ Allow wireless applications (Bluetooth)
✅ The signal goes through the crossover before the amplifier
✅ Less prone to distortion

Passive Speaker Signal Flow
Source -> Pre Amp -> Power Amp -> Crossover -> Drive Units

Active Speaker Signal Flow
Source -> Pre Amp -> Crossover -> Power Amp (for each filtered frequency band) -> Drive Units

Learn how to protect your cables by using the "Over/Under" coiling method.

This technique works perfectly for both right-handed or left-handed crew members (either clockwise or counterclockwise)

1️⃣ Grab your cable and start with an overhand loop.
2️⃣ Flip the cable, and roll it underhand to create the second loop.
3️⃣ Repeat overhand and underhand until the cable coils entirely in a circle.
4️⃣ Use a velcro tie or string to tie the cable in place.

✅ You may label your cables with ties of different colors for classifications (e.g., length, type, usage)

✅ It’s adviseable to keep the tie attached to the male end of the cable so it doesn’t interfere with any mic/instrument/equipment you may plug into.

Watts vs SPL

Contrary to common belief, you should never assume that more wattage equals more volume when comparing two speakers. While wattage is a significant factor when you’re choosing speakers, sensitivity is even more important. What’s sensitivity? Well, it has nothing to do with a speaker’s ability to empathize with your feelings. Rather, it’s a measurement of a speaker’s ability to effectively convert power into sound, expressed in decibels. It describes the SPL that a speaker can produce from a 1-watt signal at a distance of 1 meter. It’s a major indicator of a speaker’s overall loudness and one reason why a 1,000-watt speaker isn’t necessarily louder than a 500-watt one. In fact, a 500-watt speaker with a sensitivity of 98dB will actually be the same volume as a 1,000-watt speaker with a sensitivity of 95dB.

You also need to be wary of comparing the wattages of two different powered speakers. Why is that? Since RMS values refer to continuous, real-world usage, they’re better than peak values at gauging a speaker’s performance. Unfortunately, some manufacturers market their equipment using only peak values, because the larger numbers look more impressive. So be sure to take this into account when comparing speakers. That 200-watt speaker may not really be a 200-watt RMS-capable speaker, and thus, you may not be making an apples-to-apples comparison.
