December 15, 2023, the Municipal Hall's 2nd-floor Annex Building buzzed with activity as the fifteen (15) Punong Barangays convened for the 2023 LIGA ng mga Barangay Chapter Election. The election was overseen by the Board of Election Supervisors, chaired by Dr. Heide Marie C. Lagunzad, with esteemed members Hon. Richard A. Cesar and Hon. Miguelito M. Advincula. Additionally, the Election Committee, led by Chairperson Hon. Victoria A. Abad, together with its members Hon. Noli U. Palaña and Hon. Dennis C. Sabelle throughout the proceedings. A Panel of Observers was also present, including Ms. Imelda P. Caneja, MLGOO, and PLT Cyrus B Paredes, OIC Chief of Police at Tolosa Municipal Police Station.

The visit to San Vicente showcased a rich array of engaging activities, including the lively HAPAG (Home Garden, Interaction, and Harvest Festival), inspired by the touching stories of families and communities. Barangay Olot showcases lively Zumba sessions, fostering both health and community spirit. Moreover, Daniel Z. Romualdez Elementary School stood out as a beacon of wellness education, epitomizing the “Healthiest School” in our community.

The Grade 12 Senior High School students specializing in Accountancy, Business, and Management at Tolosa Stand Alone Senior High School completed their 80-hour Work Immersion program at the Local Government Unit of Tolosa. This immersive experience, overseen by our Municipal Mayor, Hon. Erwin C. Ocaña, took place from November 29 to December 13, 2023.

Throughout their 10-day tenure, these students actively participated in various departments and offices, gaining firsthand exposure to the different transactions, services, programs, and projects dedicated for the advancement and progress of the entire municipality.

The esteemed presence of our Municipal Mayor, Hon. Erwin C. Ocaña, Municipal Vice Mayor, Hon. Menardo M. Mate, Ms. Desiree V. Ibañez, EnP, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator and CBMS Focal Person, Mr. Eleazar Bendanillo, Municipal Statistician-Designate, and Data Protection Officer-Designate, along with key officials from the Philippine Statistics Authority graced this significant event.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared December 26, 2023 a special non-working day to give Filipino people more time to celebrate the holiday with their families and loved ones, a day after Christmas.

“The declaration of 26 December 2023, Tuesday, as an additional special (non-working) day will give the people the full opportunity to celebrate the holiday with their families and loved ones,” President Marcos said in Proclamation No. 425.

Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin signed Proclamation No. 425 on December 12.

President Marcos added that “a longer weekend will also promote domestic tourism” as Christmas Day, which is observed as a regular holiday throughout the country, falls on a Monday.

The election took place at the 2nd Floor Annex Building, Municipal Hall, which was led by the Election Committee Chairperson, Mr. Keen Axl P. Mercado, and its members, Mr. Mark Keen S. Abastillas, and Mr. Justine Michael B. Varona, along with the Municipal Board of Election Supervisors headed by MLGOO Imelda P. Caneja (DILG), and its members, Ms. Genevieve A. Elona, COMELEC Officer, and Ms. Consuelo R. Lumbre, SB Secretary, to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process. Also present is the Panel of Observers composed of PCPT Melvin Malate (PNP), Ms. Gladys L. Rizaga, School Principal II (DepEd), and Pastor Ronald Leysa (CSO).
