STRONG, IS SHE

She is strong. Not because of how much she can lift but for how she lifts others up when they're at their lowest. Not because she is capable of withstanding the storm but because she'll navigate the storm and then show you how to do the same. Not because she is indestructible but because after every fall, she will always, always rise. She is strong. Not because she chose to be but because the world demanded her to be. She has walked through hell, faced battles most will not comprehend and yet despite it all, she still chooses to be kind; to be soft at the hands of the world that tried to break her. Her strength comes from within. From learning how to turn pain into power, chaos into peace, wounds into wisdom. Strong is she, who knows her worth and refuses to settle for less. Strong is she, who will not back down, who will fight for what she believes in. Strong is she, who has love wrapped around her heart, courage knitted in her bones and fire running through her veins.

Author’s note: Sean and I, together with our immediate family, spent the entire night of December 28, 2023, decorating our wedding reception, which also served as our preparation venue. The men in our family, along with my future engineer sister, meticulously hung fairy lights in every tree. Meanwhile, the women dressed the tables and arranged the faux flowers with care.

It was undeniably exhausting, considering we were to be married the very next day. Yet, if you were to ask Sean and me whether we would do it all over again, our answer would be a resounding yes. Despite the fatigue, the unity we felt as a family was unforgettable.

Many times, hosting such events is made easier by hiring professionals. However, on this particular occasion, even with our diverse backgrounds, we all shared a singular mission: to create a reception that was not only beautiful but also imbued with warmth. This experience now forms a cherished core memory for us as a couple.

Author’s note: Any man can contribute genetic material and 'father' children, but being a father means something far more than that. It's about protecting, nurturing, and providing for your kids, teaching them what it feels like to be loved and valued. Fathers help shape the kind of people our world is filled with. The effects of how a man handles that vital role ripple on for generations, for good or for ill. Here's to the men who are up to the challenge, the ones putting their heart and soul into it. Men who can be counted on when their children need them. Whether you're a biological or adoptive dad, or perhaps a father-figure in someone's life, the world needs more of your kind, and we honor you this Father's Day.
