JIU-JITSU | Kimberly Anne Custodio ended a string of heartbreaks for the Philippines and handed the country its first gold medal at the JJIF 2024 World Championships in Heraklion, Greece.

Custodio ruled the adults female -45kg division, besting UAE's Balqees Abdoh Abdulla in the final.

Daniella Palanca got a bronze in the same weight class after defeating Abdyyeva Hurma of Turkmenistan.

Jollirine Co, meanwhile, earned a silver in the adults female -48kg category after a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Kacie Tan Pechrada of Thailand.

'SANA PO PROUD PA RIN PO KAYO SA'KIN'

Ganito ang ipinahayag ng Filipina boxer na si Aira Villegas sa isang panayam matapos siyang magkamit ng bronze medal sa women's 50kg boxing sa 2024 Paris Olympics.

"Hindi naman po ako super disappointed kasi ginawa ko 'yung best ko. Talagang napag-aralan po and magaling po. Aminado pong magaling po talaga siya. Pero siyempre, for me, nagawa ko lahat po ng best ko. And I hope po sa lahat po ng Pilipino na, again, napuyat, I'm sorry guys. Nakapag-uwi po ako ng medalya po, sana po proud pa rin po kayo sa'kin," saad ni Aira sa naturang interview.

"And ayun po, sa younger self ko, I know that you are already proud of me. And to my future self, mas lalo ka pang magiging proud sa'kin, gagawin ko para ayun nga po, 'yung pangarap ko na bago man lang mag-retired sa boxing is patugtugan ako ng national anthem ng bansa natin sa mismong Olympic," pagpapatuloy pa niya.
