5 lessons as an events host πŸ₯°

Hosted my last event for the year 2023!

Here are 5 lessons I learned after being an events host for almost 10 years:

1. Start small - as Bro Bo Sanchez said, β€œfail many, fail tiny, fail quickly.” Small beginnings mean that you will also have small mistakes which will make the recovery easier. I started hosting with less than 100 attendees and I also did not receive any talent fee back then. But now, I think the largest crowd I have hosted is more than 20,000 and my talent fee has grown to 5 digits. Small beginnings prepare us for bigger opportunities so maximize your starting process and learn from those.

2. Hosting is not just about being fluent in a language or having confidence on stage, it’s all about building rapport and engaging the crowd. Being an events host means that we have to connect the audience with the event, or with the couple (for weddings). We are not on the spotlight, we are THE spotlight - we gather everyone’s attention and direct it to the purpose of the event.

3. It’s more than a performance, it’s about creating and maintaining relationships after the event. I’ve always said that money is only a secondary reward when I go to work. The most fulfilling part of this job is when clients, guests, and fellow suppliers book me again on their next events. This means that I have earned their trust - this is what I’d like to gain more than my TF (but of course, I’m so happy to be paid by doing what I love hahaha)

4. Use your fear - I was literally clueless when I started to offer my skills to strangers because I’m used to hosting for friends and colleagues. But instead of being afraid and stopping there, I used that fear of the unknown to develop systems and worksheets that will allow me to get to know my clients and their preferences. This also means that I have to leave some time in my calendar to make room for meetings especially for events that are more complex than others.

5. Health is wealth - this applies to everyone but more so for us who facilitate events. Our energy and health needs to be at its 100% so we can radiate good vibes to all of the guests and even our co-suppliers. This is why I love sleeping and slow mornings, it’s my form of recharging myself.

It’s been a great year and I am so grateful to have a chance to do what I love. All because I said yes to hosting a small event 10 years ago.

Thank you to everyone who supported and believed in me, cheers to a more impactful 2024!

Hosting is not my job, it has become my purpose...

Holding the microphone and being in charge of such beautiful events is like a special gift that has been entrusted to me. That's why my goal for the day is not just to get paid but to give value. To earn the trust of my clients and give them an unforgettable day. I'm not saying that I'm perfect but I try to always give my best.

To Jazz and Caleb, thank you for your trust! Congratulations and cheers to your forever!
