Things to consider in choosing your โ€œABAYSโ€ โ™ฅ๏ธ

Sino ba dapat ang abay? Who should be my Maid of Honor? Who should be the Best Man? Dapat ba ka-close ko ang mga abay?

1. Pick a RESPONSIBLE Maid of Honor and Bestman!

These two are very important because they will be working during your wedding. Yes, WORKING. Di sila display lang na mag papaganda at mag seselfie lang. They will be assisting you and your groom while getting ready and during the ceremony. They will be the point person for your coordinators, kasi pag may problem, hindi na namin istressin pa si bride or groom, tatanungin nalang namin si Maid of Honor or BestMan. So yes, malaki ang tiwala niyo dapat sa kanila and involved sila sa wedding niyo. So pick those who can be entrusted with responsibilities(and money) and someone who can stay calm even when under stress. They should be able and WILLING to assist during errands prior the wedding and on the day of the wedding. Also, accdg to tradition, both are in charge of the bridal shower and the bachelor party (IF game sila gumastos and mag abala).

2. For BRIDESMAIDS, GROOMSMEN, SECONDARY SPONSORS.

Dapat RELIABLE, HELPFUL, & TRUSTED. Please pick someone who LOVES you enough na mag eeffort talaga sila to be there on time! I cannot stress this enough. Pag sinabi ni coordinator na 7am dapat po naka makeup na lahat and ready for photoshoot, they should be there on or before the call time! Also pick someone na COMMITTED talaga sa duty niya as abay. Bawal late, bawal madaming reklamo, bawal maarte. Tandaan, kasal ni bride and groom, hindi kasal ni bridesmaid/groomsman. Wag silang pa-diva! ๐Ÿ˜€ Kung magiging source of stress mo lang ung friend mong laging pa-late or laging drawing, invite mo nalang siya but don't make her/him part of the entourage...save your friendship! Baka mag FO kayo after the wedding haha!

3. CHILDREN

Okay, personally I'd rather not have children who don't know how to walk pa or too shy to walk alone. Yes pwede naman kargahin. But when left alone na, sila ung nag iiyakan, maingay, nag kukulitan sa church, nag gagadget while nag mimisa si father. Or ung patakbo takbo sa dance floor habang nag hohost si emcee. Or pwedeng sa kakulitan, maka basag or maka tumba ng cake ๐Ÿ˜ž In short, they can be a distraction or source of trouble during your wedding. If you don't know the attitude of the kid, if you're not sure na mag bebehave sila, better be safe than sorry. Also, a wedding ceremony is roughly 1 to 1 and a half hours. Then reception will be 2hours minimum. Kids are easily bored. Di sila nag eenjoy sa mga kasal. So if di niyo naman immediate family or kung hindi naman necessary, I suggest not having kids at your wedding. Oh and your guests who are parents deserve a stress-free date night, without their children. Let your guests enjoy the celebration na walang iniisip na aalagaan at papakainin. So paano ang ring bearer, flower girls, coin bearer etc?

4. You can have adult bearers!

The ring bearer can be your bestman too. For sure he won't play with the ring or lose the ring! One of your groomsmen can be your bible bearer, or someone who is like a spiritual mentor to you(mas may meaning pa yun). For flower girls, you can still assign that to kids, as long as behave ๐Ÿ˜‰

5. NINONG & NINANG

Here in the Philippines, "sponsor" ang tawag nila jan. And most of the time, kaya naging "sponsor" yan, is because madaming pera. Well, it's up to you if that's how you'll define your ninong and ninang. What I personally suggest is to choose people who are special to you. Someone who you have a bond with and who can give you godly marriage advice when you need it (not just money). It canโ€™t be avoided that you get suggestions from your parents especially when it comes to selecting godparents. Ivovolunteer ni mother ang kanyang kumare. Of course, you want to say yes to your momโ€™s request, BUT at the end of the day, you want to look back at your wedding and say, โ€œWe chose these people because they are all special to us.โ€ Your godparents must be able to guide you in your marriage and give you some advice if you need one.
