UNICEF’s World Children’s Day 2023, A Call for Collective Climate Action
UNICEF's World Children's Day is an annual celebration that brings attention to the well-being and rights of children worldwide. In line with the theme of a safe and resilient future for every child, our event styling prioritized sustainability and eco-consciousness. Through the use of recycled, upcycled, and sustainable materials, we aimed to not only create a visually appealing atmosphere but also to contribute to the global efforts for a more environmentally friendly future.
1. Entrance Arch: Embracing Nature with Fresh and Dried Leaves
The entrance arch set the tone for the event, symbolizing the connection between children and nature. Crafted from a combination of fresh and dried leaves, the arch was a beautiful representation of sustainable design, showcasing the beauty that can be achieved without compromising the environment.
2. Commitment Post: Pledges on Reclaimed Tarpaulins
The Commitment Wall served as a platform for the youth to express their dedication to environmental causes. Utilizing the back of old tarpaulins from previous events, we not only minimized waste but also highlighted the importance of repurposing materials for meaningful initiatives.
3. Booths: Restructured Wood Pallets for a Second Life
The event booths were constructed from second-hand wood pallets, creatively restructured for various props and purposes. This not only added a rustic and charming aesthetic to the venue but also showcased the potential for giving discarded materials a new lease on life.
4. Upcycled Elements: Tires and Bottles Reimagined
Throughout the event, elements such as decorations and installations were crafted from upcycled old tires and bottles. These transformed materials not only served as eye-catching design features but also conveyed the powerful message that even seemingly disposable items can be repurposed into something beautiful and useful.
5. Collaterals: Supporting the "Vote for Tote" Program
In a commitment to reducing waste, collaterals like banners and signage printed on tarpaulins were donated to the "Vote for Tote" program. By doing so, we extended the lifecycle of these materials, contributing to a circular economy and supporting initiatives that promote sustainability.
6. Graffiti Artist: We picked an artist who is also a teacher and mentor at Sisidlan Institute. Sisidlan Institute, a non-profit Waldorf school, is renowned for its commitment to sustainable practices in education, making it a fitting source for our artist's inspiration and expertise. Thank you Teacher Ira Tan!!
Our styling for UNICEF's World Children's Day embraced the spirit of climate action by consciously choosing recycled, upcycled, and sustainable materials. Through the thoughtful repurposing of items such as leaves, tarpaulins, wood pallets, tires, and bottles, we not only created a visually striking event but also demonstrated the potential for sustainable practices in event design. By embracing the theme "Every Child Deserves a Safe and Resilient Future," we hope to inspire a future where environmental consciousness is an integral part of celebrations and events worldwide.
In addition to the artistic and educational collaborations that made UNICEF's World Children's Day a success, this event stands out as a refreshing departure from the conventional approach to event styling. In an era where events often contribute significantly to environmental degradation through excessive use of balloons, styrofoam, and plastic waste, our commitment to sustainability took center stage.
As we celebrate the success of this event, we invite the industry and event organizers to embrace this refreshing perspective and explore innovative ways to merge creativity with sustainability. Together, we can redefine event styling, making it a force for positive change and a source of inspiration for a safer and more resilient future for every child.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH to Events Agency Red Ants, Inc. for a successful and meaningful event!!
