The faces of San Juan 🇵🇷
During the San Sebastián Street Festival, Puerto Ricans craft giant papier-mâché heads, known as "cabezudos," to pay homage to historical and cultural figures. This tradition dates back to the 19th century when the festival first emerged as a celebration of San Sebastián, the patron saint of the city of San Juan. The cabezudos represent influential individuals who have left a lasting impact on Puerto Rican history, ranging from political leaders to cultural icons. Through these towering effigies, locals honor their heritage and commemorate the contributions of those who have shaped the island's identity.
