'Marriage is about the blending of two distinct lives, and two distinct personalities, into a new and meaningful partnership. While both will stay whole, your paths will join and become one. To honour this, the sand ceremony symbolises this blending of important parts of yourselves into one.'

A sand ceremony is a lovely way to symbolise the joining together of your lives and the joining of families together. You can use sand from different places that have meaning to you, or different coloured sand. You can use special jars and involve your family and friends in the ceremony.

You can even start a personal tradition where you collect sand from your travels and keep adding to your sand jar over the course of your many years together.

Music plays a really important part of your wedding ceremony. It adds emotional tone, joy and celebration.

I spend time before your ceremony talking with any musicians or DJs who will be playing music. We need to ensure that we're both on the same page as to exactly when during the ceremony music is to be played, for how long and whether they will need a cue from me to start or fade out the music.

One of the many things a celebrant does to ensure your wedding goes as smoothly as possible, so it's stress free and joyous. 🎶

[This is a picture of the very talented .guitar Miguel Mendes who I've loved working with for many years. I had a long chat with Miguel earlier in the year getting his insider tips and knowhow on ceremony music, which I'll share on my blog later in the year.]

Some sources say the tradition of ring bearing was born in ancient Egypt, where it was customary for treasured jewels to be carried on ornamental pillows during wedding ceremonies. Others claim the tradition came about during medieval times when Northern Europeans began to present the bride with her wedding ring on the tip of a sword.

Although having your ring bearer present your wedding rings on the tip of the sword may be a bit OTT, it's worth thinking carefully about who the ring bearer will be for your wedding... 💍

A key relationship that a celebrant develops is with your wedding photographer. Photographers and Celebrants use the same space during your ceremony and it's a dance between us - they have their job of taking the best shots possible and I have my job of performing your ceremony. Sometimes, if you have more than one photographer + a videographer (or two!) that can be 5, sometimes 6 people in the ceremony space along with you the couple + bridesmaids and groomsmen.

I always take the time to chat with photographers and videographers before the ceremony to talk through how we're going to use the space. I will also ensure that I'm out of shot when there are key moments in your ceremony that are important to record in photos and film e.g. entrance of groom, flower girls, page boys, bridesmaids, groomsmen and bride, first kiss, exchange of vows, exchange of rings, walk back down the aisle etc. This means that your photographer/videographer can step in and take the best shot possible (and not have my face in every shot!)

[This picture is of who I've worked with for many years. Total legend and very talented photographer]

The environment that you have around you before your wedding ceremony is SO important. Having supportive friends and family who can help you with practicalities, make you laugh and keep the energy light and joyful can make all the difference to your enjoyment of your special day. The days leading up to your wedding day and the hours before hand may be stressful and overwhelming. Think carefully about where you'll be getting ready before your ceremony and the people who will be close to you, setting the energy, anticipating your needs and celebrating along side you.

The lighting of a unity candle can symbolise the joining together of families, the union of two individuals and the creation of a blended family. It's a beautiful addition to a symbolic wedding ceremony. I always suggest that the candles are placed in glass jars to ensure that they don't go out during the ceremony! The candles can later be placed by the bride and groom during the wedding dinner.
