‘Let’s have a great time with music, art, and being together!’

On the second day of ARTmania 2024, festival-goers had the chance to watch a multimedia contemporary dance show with live performers and musicians, as part of “ARTmania in Context*”, a new cultural project that emphasizes the fusion of traditional artistic forms with new, innovative, and experimental expressions from Sibiu.

The team involved in this show was coordinated by Bobi Pricop and included Oana Micu (scenography and art direction), Alexei Țurcan (music), Cătălina Stanislav and Paul Breazu (script), Filip Stoica (choreography), Nichita Teodorescu (lighting design), Philip Goron (percussion), Emitter (visual effects), Iustin Surpanelu (image), Costi Simion and Florin Boicescu (video mapping and video direction), and Bogdan Zamfir, Alexandru Snopovschi, and Dima Roșca (dance and acrobatics).

It talks about an important topic for our industry, one with dire negative effects for the local sector, which was just starting to develop in the last years when was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂❓
To let you know about what is going on and shed some light on the consequences triggered by this measure on the local market. Also, to support our future actions which will be taken together with AROC (The Romanian Association of Promoters of Concerts and Cultural Events) and other fellow event organizers.

𝘈𝘯𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴!

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰:
⚠️ The Ministry of Finance is currently working on a series of fiscal measures aimed at reducing Romania's budget deficit. One of them aims to increase the VAT rate for cultural events from 5% to 19%, an action which, if taken, will gravely affect this sector, already strongly affected by the recent pandemic context and lack of support from the authorities.

⚠️ If this measure comes into force, it may lead to:
➡️ The disappearance of some cultural projects dear to many of us – most of the local event scene exists due to efforts made by local entrepreneurs, which are not part of international networks and cannot afford more taxes than the already existing ones (not a few);
➡️ Increase of costs for tickets - some cultural events and projects will become excessively expensive. This additional taxation adds to the already increased costs of artists, logistics, accommodation etc., as we are competing with large European festivals when booking artists;
➡️ Decrease in the artistic quality of many events, if they manage to survive.

As we all know, festivals are complex events which require a lot of investments (e.g.: for creating festival infrastructure/ building it from scratch, just to name one of these costs) and risk taking.

⚠️ The measure proposed by the Ministry of Finance is not a beneficial one, will certainly not solve the budget deficit, but will certainly lead to the disappearance of events/ festivals, job losses and to decrease in ticket sales. These aspects will generate lower taxes paid to the local budgets and will result in a step back for this economic sector, already strongly affected by Covid-19, not to mention a future scarce event offer for the music consumers.

🔊That is why, together with AROC, we publicly speak about this important matter to better present its negative consequences to the Ministry of Finance and to the general public. We can only hope that the ticket-buying public will also support this effort.
