The Finnish Institute in Stockholm and Nordiska museet present a design showcase featuring the craftwork of award-winning Finnish designer Mari Koppanen.
The exhibition KÄÄPÄ explores the use of amadou, a unique, leatherlike material derived from tinder mushrooms. Historically, tinder mushrooms have not only been harvested but also cultivated in Europe for various purposes. In the Nordic countries, amadou was primarily used for fire-making and folk medicine. However, the craft of transforming the hard, woody fungus into a velvety material has nearly disappeared.
