We filmed this when Sasha was about 2 months old, the process forced me to put in to words all the emotions that had been going on inside.

I wrote and rewrote the script each night, hoping to simplify it to its essence, so we could film the scenes in a short time, keep the baby happy, while managing everything else. I am so glad she was sleeping through the night by this stage so I had time to pump, edit the video and do voiceover. I'm so glad to be given this assignment, to create for the new camera launch and for myself, and Sasha. Most lucky opportunity.

Aboveall, I am so glad to share this intimate video with you.

Took a class out on the streets today, for a candid "Location-spotting" portraiture class. We're not looking for trains, but looking for locations in the most mundane of places, where we can create amazing portraits.

I wanted to demonstrate the different dynamic ways we can think about our environments, whether its architecture, interior structures, greenery and landscapes, or simply, light falling into a hole, as these two images prescribe.

More behind-the-scenes images to come.

Thanks to for supporting this workshop and all participants who showed up in town early on a Sunday morning!

Shooting with a long lens gave me a perspective of Little India I'd never seen before, even though I've been there thousands of times. It forced me to go far, and also go higher up- in this case I went to the HDB flats for a bird's eye view. And suddenly I could understand the topography of the street, how the segments of Little India were planned. You know, URA's/architect's viewpoint.
(I explain it more in the lastest video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUU0WL75G4w)

Whereas previously I was all caught up in the cacophony, the finer details, the shopping, the dirt, the grime. It was at this instance I fell in love with shooting long.
Long also means more legwork, more planning, a bigger circumference to shoot the same spot.

For this Singapore Tourism Board Campaign led by Ink, titled, "A Singapore State of Mind," I was asked to explain what Strength means in Singapore. (Ep.3) https://ink-global.com/asingaporestateofmind/

The Singapore Dragonboat Association in Kallang is a place where my real strength was developed, more mentally than physically. I was a National Junior College Canoeist and Dragonboater. Being NJ Canoeist isn't just a title, it's a tradition. Rowing in the team for 2 years was formative. It was where friendships were formed going strong forwards to today, where sweat and tears rolled, and where I learnt "It's not the triumph but the struggle", "not to win, but to take part."

That was how the Dragonboat segment became the highlight of this short film. The boats are half-full due to social distancing measures.

Being back in the water felt amazing. Rowers who spent days here will know how it feels. I had to hold back tears saying it: This is the place I come home.

Photos taken for the episode:

"Inspirational Singaporean hosts share what makes them passionate about their city in a new three-part film series, “A Singapore State of Mind.”

I'm honoured to be on Episode 3, photographing what strength means to me in Singapore and among Singaporeans, in this short film - here's the trailer!

Thanks and Singapore Tourism Board for the feature and showcasing my photographs. The full clip on Singapore State of Mind Ep.3
