What's the representation of clogs as part of a traditional Chinese Dowry Ensemble?
Answer: Advancement!
In a Chinese wedding, two pairs of clogs are presented as part of the Dowry Ensenble (better known as jià zhuāng 嫁妆) from the bride's family to the groom's family.

Clogs are a pair of wooden platforms and wearing them resembles an increase in height. Hence, they bear the meaning of "Advancement (步步高升)" in the newly-wedded life. They also have a second meaning of hitting a milestone in life for achieving "real" adulthood when passing through the rite of passage for getting married.

What do bananas represent in a Chinese wedding?
Answer: To Welcome!
In a Teochew Wedding (some Hokkien also practise), bunches of bananas in pairs are used as returning gifts from the bride’s family to the groom’s family during the betrothal ceremony (better know as guo da 过大礼).

As bananas are pronounced as “Jio” (蕉) in the Teochew (and Hokkien) dialect, it has the homonym of “Jio” (招), which means “to welcome”. This is a form of well wishes given to the groom and the bridal couple to welcome (most importantly) offsprings, wealth and many good wishes in their newly wedded life ahead!
