Who is DJ Lawva?

DJ Lawva was one of Sierra Leone’s finest DJs, Movie Actor, Supreme Inc Signed Artist, youth Activist, Scouter, and president of the Sierra Leone DJ’s Union.

His parents are Mr. James Leverse and Madam Ann Ryan-Caulker.
He has two children Samuel and Samuela.

He attended the St Edward Secondary School (May Park Boys) and later furthered his education to attain a Diploma in Media Studies.

Dj Lawva started his entertainment career as an actor with the Tabule Theater Group where he took part in several stage dramas and short films.

He was also Recording Artiste signed under Supreme Inc, In 2005 they released first hit single which was a popular song even among kids(Shimie).

He became a DJ and started playing music in the early 90s after Jenner Cole inspired him and also taught him how to mix and play music.

He gained popularity when playing music around the Kingtom Community, where he was fondly called Dj Sam boy.

During the civil war in Sierra Leone, he relocated temporarily to the Gambia where his passion for becoming a Dj increased and he started playing reggae music to entertain all listeners.

After the Civil War, he returned to Sierra Leone where he grew a love for club mix. He worked with Freetown Radio where he later became the station manager.

Till his passing, DJ Lawva was a former announcer and DJ at Radio Democracy 98.1 FM. He became the first Sierra Leonean and among a few DJs in the sub-region that has featured in BBC 1Xtra on the Programme Destination Africa hosted by Kenyan, DJ Edu on BBC sounds. “Dj Lawva Music Live brings out the best of Dallas B n Eddie 441” was a favorite with music fans.

The late man was well-known for Real Boss Brand owned by his fiancée Rosaline Sesay.
His ability to mix Sierra Leonean and other African sounds when playing was unmatched.

Top and outstanding radio DJ Samuel Leverse aka DJ Lawva was unanimously elected unopposed as the first President of the recently revived Sierra Leone DJs Union in December 2020 at an event in Karina Complex, Kenema.

After he took over as president his vision was to transform SLedu to be a union with class and good structure, he fought hard for the union to be part of the Sierra Leone Labour Congress, SLAJ, and other institutions.

Under his leadership as president, he organized a successful entertainment conference called "Fambul Meeting".

He also signed several MOU (s) with entertainment players nationally and internationally to promote Sierra Leonean music.

The Sierra Leone Djs Union would like to inform the music industry and the public that it has had secured and confirmed march 11, 2022, to host the first ever women's day music festival that will feature top five Sierra Leonean female artists to be the main act for the night.

The program will also run by SLeDU female members headed by the Chair lady.
This event is going to take place at the attouga mini Stadium in the eastern part of Freetown.

SLEDU PRESIDENT ARRIVES IN GHANA AHEAD OF DJUGA HEALTH WALK & MOU SIGNING.

The President of the Sierra Leone DJ’s Union (SLeDU) Samuel Laverse popularly known as DJ Lawva has arrived safe in Accra Ghana for an official visit to the DJs Union of Ghana (DJUGA). The purpose for his trip to Ghana is to establish an effective and systematic working relationship with colleague African DJs.

DJ Lawva would be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of the Sierra Leone DJs Union with the DJs Union of Ghana. The MOU is to form a collaboration to carry out Joint projects, research and policy analysis on development and implementation of policies supporting the role of productive music playlist and musical concerts in the proposed areas between the two parties for the growth of Sierra Leone/Ghana MUSIC and CULTURE.

The shrewd President of SLeDU shall also be participating in the DJs Union of Ghana Health Walk dubbed ‘healthy DJs, stronger industry’ this Saturday the 30th of July 2021 in Accra. The fitness walk with Ghana DJs is geared towards keeping the DJs healthy for productive Djing. Prezo Lawva is currently receiving an overwhelming reception in Ghana just after his arrival this morning. He has already started networking with Accra based DJs for the Promotion of Sierra Leone Music in Accra.

More details about the MOU signing would be communicated in due course.
