Ateny Wek blames Presidential Press Unit for not responding to criticism against President Kiir
The former Press Secretary in the Office of the President, Ateny Wek Ateny also known as The Man of Atenydior has blamed the Press Unit headed by his successor Lily Adhieu Martin for not responding to criticism of personality leveled against the President by the critics.
Ateny in his advisory Facebook post addressed to former SSBC News Anchor Garang John who always criticizes Kiir asked whether the Presidential Press Unit is waiting for Sky to come down to respond to Garang John's criticism.
“I am not sure, if the Press Unit, in the Office of the President is waiting for the sky to come down in order to respond to you - at least about what is touching the President's health,” Ateny said in a Facebook post.
“Yet, I still believe the Office of the President is still having its Press Unit, and so it is incumbent upon the Press Secretary or the person of her choice to address any criticism against the President. Otherwise, their silence is not what I am addressing here,” he added.
However, the Press Unit in the Office of the President did not comment on the matter as to why it doesn't respond to criticism against the President.
In August 2022, President Kiir sacked his long-time serving Spokesperson, Ateny Wek Ateny, and replaced him with Lily Adhieu Martin Manyiel Ayuel, daughter of former SPLA fighter and commander Martin Manyiel Ayuel.
Since losing a job in 2022, Ateny has been seen giving powerful speeches at Cultural and Musical Festivals, Wedding Ceremonies, and Youth and Community meetings in Juba.
