OPEN CALL: The 2025 Live Design Discourse Workshop in Pattani Thailand
The Foreign Affairs Department of the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage (ASA) is pleased to announce the 2024 architectural workshop through a series of the Live Design Discourse (LDD) program. We invite young architecture professionals and architecture students to register and submit your application.
ABOUT LIVE DESIGN DISCOURSE (LDD) :
* LDD is one of the Four-Nations activities, initiated since 2017 in collaboration with the architecture institutes of 4 countries consisting of ASA of Thailand, Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia (IAI), Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), and Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM).
* LDD aims to be a forum that brings together architecture students and young practitioners among alliance nations to encourage the exchange of knowledge, experience, and culture, and strengthen the bonds of architectural collaboration between the four countries through workshop camp.
* A Mentor and 4 Students from each Member Institute Delegation will participate onsite, as well as a team of local experts. Participants will also have the opportunity to collaborate with international fellow students.
THE 2025 LIVE DESIGN DISCOURSE WORKSHOP IN PATTANI THAILAND
* WORKSHOP LOCATION: Pattani Province, Thailand
* WORKSHOP THEME: “LIVING WITH RESILIENCE”
Pattani Province, located in the southern region of Thailand, is known for its rich cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes, and vibrant local communities. The province is home to a diverse population, with a mix of Thai Buddhists, Thai Muslims, and ethnic Malay Muslims contributing to its cultural tapestry. The province was a significant trading port within the ancient Malay kingdom, Langkasuka, and served as a hub for commerce and cultural exchange. The purpose of studying this project aims to explore innovative and local wisdom approaches for coexistence with flooding, adapting to the future needs of the community. Given Pattani City's geography, which includes a river that acts as a catchment area, short-term flooding is common. Increasingly severe weather patterns necessitate adaptive strategies for both people and architecture to manage the anticipated rise in flood volume and frequency. How can we, as an architect professional and architectural student, leverage study models to explore the adaptation of architectural practices and residential spaces from the past to envision the future? This led to the theme of “LIVING WITH RESILIENCE” for the workshop.
* In this edition, ASA will be the organizer for the 5-day intensive workshop providing participants with a forum for problem-solving, collective learning, and practice in a deeply collaborative process through intersectional perspectives. The workshop will be delivered in English. The Workshop offers new paths for exploration and engagement that can help navigate the intricacies and challenges of architectural work. The workshop outcome will be featured in the exhibition at the ASA Taksin Chapter Expo during February 21-23, 2025.
