Here are a few tips to keep our plants healthy and hydrated as well.
1. Pour a layer of sand over the top soils in your compound gardens or on top sirface of the potted plant soils, this keeps the water beneath preserved preventing drying up. Reason God put sand in the valleys where water abides
2. Avoid watering plants during the hot day as the water heats up and boils or cooks the root system killing the plants. Only water very early in the morning, but appreciably late in the evening after the ground has cooled from the heat of the day's radiations, so water can stay all night long.
3. Raise potted plants off heating up concrete floors or pavers that end up cooking the root system , by improvising stands or poor conducting pieces, three or four, so air can pass freely under the pot carrying away the heat pungs from the floor.
5. Large stone deco or pebbles should not lean against the plant shoot to avoid burning it when they heat up, but also to avoid these bulky masses from interrupting notmal growth expansion of the plant shoot and root systems.
6. Do not prune in hot weather as it causes plants to lose desperately needed water and create difficulty of recovery from injury of cuttings.
7. Pests in haste to find scarce water, turn to consuming new fresh plant leaves to survive, there by causing damage and accelerating diseases. Some do their multiplication as well such as the caterpillars (baby butterflies) e.t.c. so be observant and take measures such as spraying to deter the infestations.
8. Lastly when it gets hot every where, the safe heaven for insects, and reptiles some of which may be dangerous is in the cool shade of plants, underneath pots and water tanks as well as water cooled sink and bathroom passages. Pour some paraffin once a week to repel unwanted reptiles from these passages and fumigate with pesticides to keep home safety in check.
