3 Tips to Exploring with Coffee Beans

1. Grind your own beans: coffee just tastes better with freshly ground beans. The shelf life of beans vs ground coffee is longer. So if you grind coffee just before serving the quality of flavor will remain in tact.

2. Fresh & local: Look for locally roasted beans with freshness dates that tell you when the beans were roasted.

Most large corporate bean providers won’t tell you, which means your beans may have set in dusty warehouses for a long time, beyond a healthy shelf life… which is about 1 year.

3. Taste Taste Taste: try new beans. If you don’t like one flavor profile you may love another. Don’t give up on a bean provider until you had the chance to taste a few of their roasts.

Pro tip: if they have sample packets purchase those first! This way you can find the favor profile you like quickly!

What makes a lattes taste bad?

It's all about the quality of milk your barista uses. There is a higher ratio of steamed milk in a latte. So, it is more likely that you will taste the flavor of the milk you're drinking. Many people have sworn off lattes without knowing it was just the milk brand or type they didn't prefer.

Mocha Latte Recipe

2 shots espresso
1 cup steamed milk
2 tbsp chocolate syrup
1 tbsp sugar (optional)
Whipped cream (optional)
Cocoa powder or chocolate shavings (optional)
Instructions:

Brew 2 shots of espresso and pour into a large cup.

Steam 1 cup of milk until it is hot and frothy.
Add 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup to the espresso.

Pour the steamed milk into the cup with the chocolate espresso.

Add 1 tablespoon of sugar, if desired.
Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa powder or chocolate shavings, if desired.

Serve and enjoy your homemade Mocha Latte!

If you want the same great caramel taste of espresso at 1/4 of the cost of an espresso machine try a moka pot.

This is the Italian at home coffee pot and has been used to make a rich morning cup for a very long time.

Most are made with aluminum but you can find stainless steel versions also.

We roasted some of our own beans this morning and it truly was delicious!

Good Morning!

It’s a Swiss Water Decaf type of morning. Goals this year consist on not being caffeine dependent. 😏

I love this decaf because the Swiss Water process doesn’t rely on chemicals to strip the beans of their caffeine!

Instead, water and pressure are used.

Plus! The flavor that’s normally lost in a chemical bath isn’t with Swiss Water! It’s a win win.

Great tasting cup of coffee, no heart palpitations!! 🥳😏😂

COCONUT CREAM FOAM RECIPE:

Ingredients
Can of coconut milk
Splash of Maple syrup
Pinch of salt

Combine the ingredients in a mixing bowl. Use a wisk attachment and mix until soft peaks form.

Layer gently on top of coffee and enjoy!

Two days ago I was pumped about my goals, ready to attack the world with vision!

But today… I felt intimidated. What do you do to face the fear of failing before you’ve even begun?

When I was a child I always received an orange in my stocking.

My grandparents were born in the early 1900’s and the Great Depression still informed their lives long after it was over.

So to my foil saving grandmother an orange represented a luxury that she could only have around the holidays when she was a child.

I didn’t understand any of this at the time, that oranges weren’t available year round during her childhood.

I just remember wishing for more toys.

And now, as an adult, I can’t get enough of those little nostalgic moments. They seem to bring lost loved ones close.

Last night as I rolled out these sugar cookies I could help but think of my grandma in the kitchen at Christmas time.

I treasure those memories and pass them on to you through baking, coffee, and yes maybe the occasional orange in a stocking.
