Some of the morning garden haul: plums, pears, apples. Not pictured: herbs, kale, spaghetti squash, blackberries, chicken eggs, work emails. Relishing a “calm” week before school and a packed calendar of Sept work events and harvest pops off. If you define “calm” as three kids, nine chickens, a garden, two dogs, a cat, a snake, and a business to nurture as “calm”, that is. Hey, I’m chill about it 🤷🏼♀️
Also, can we normalize looking like crap while gardening?? I’m going to flip a potting bench if I have to see one more austere homesteader wearing a damn dress and matching gardening gloves on Tik Tok. It reminds me of the line in American Beauty “See how the handle of her pruning shears matches her gardening clogs? That’s not an accident.” Is that who you want to be? Crazy ass Carolyn Burnham?? I digress…

🇵🇹An excellent little piece of news: The Member Dinner at Coelho in Sept has sold out a month in advance, with more tickets to be released to accommodate demand. The menu is A Portuguese Equinox Feast, and I was already looking forward to it at it is, but happy to expand to get more Kitchen Witch in the mouths of my fellow wine lovers. Suckling pig and bottles of Barbera, here comes Hillary.
