Love this house, but my goodness, all these leaves and still so many on tne trees. But the fire pit while raking smelled great. Will have to plan ahead and roast hot dogs over it next time.

Making progress on the two downstairs bedrooms (primary bedroom and connecting den). Hope to show off the finished rooms soon… painting is done (huge difference from the former yellow floral wallpaper!) and this weekend I’m working on revealing the beautiful wood floors.

Tonight is one of the Algonquin summer concerts in Towne Park. If you’re going, you’re welcome to stop and visit before, during, or after the music to check out the renovation progress. (On 8/17, the night of tne last concert this season, I’ll even have a gourmet s’mores bar set up. But too hot for that tonight!)

The circus is almost here… is helping to decorate the judges viewing stand for the Founders’ Day parade at 11. All these decorations will eventually be available to hold your own circus-themed party at this future event venue and gathering place.

Been busy with other priorities, and finally getting back to the primary bedroom and attached den on the main floor of . Have the paint and 1/2 beadboard on tne walls, just need to add chair rail and pull out carpet, then move in furniture and decorate in the primary bedroom. This is a sneek peek and some of the decorating inspiration for this now, yellow and grey room. Finished pictures in tne next few days.

Thanks to Humberto, Rubio and the crew at Red Oak Tree Service. They came and took care of the fallen tree, and price was reasonable, so I had them take down 4 other trees while they were here. They were great to work with, responsive, worked quickly, left me some logs for the fire pit, and hauled off the rest. I definitely will have them back when I’m ready for more tree removal!

Well, a little excitement at The_Algonquin_House last night. It was raining (but nothing crazy, no wind or lightening) and suddenly I heard and saw this tree just fall over! (The back side was dead, so eventually it had to come out, but surprised that it chose last night to end up in the front yard!) I will add some to my wood pile then have the rest hauled away.

Tonight’s summer concert is cancelled (and rescheduled for Aug 17.)

Due to the potential for rain storms moving through later today that could impact the stage setup and the concert itself, the Algonquin Summer Concerts scheduled for this evening, June 29th has been canceled. This event has been rescheduled for August 17th.
We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Have a happy Independence Day and we’ll see everyone back at Towne Park on July 6 for The Chicago Experience - TCE!

I forgot to take photos on Thursday night, but had a gathering of about 25 people over to celebrate the kick off of the summer concerts in the park next to me. Good food, drinks, free music, and great company! If you’re in the area, I’m opening up The_Algonquin_House for any of the Thursday concerts through August 10. Stop by before, during, or after any of the concerts and get a “sneak peek” of the house renovations and this future event venue!

Second project is updating the screened porch. The ceiling boards are down (May have to do a more major repair up there than planned). Had it power washed and ripped out the old brown carpeting. Today, with the help of my grandson Isaac, pulled off all the screening and trim. Up next is fresh paint, new screening and painted concrete floor. Hoping to have this room back in shape so that I can enjoy it yet this summe.

Lots of projects at this summer. First up is to layout this stone pathway and bistro seating inside the picket fenced area, and then planting the rest of the flowersr and herb garden in there. I have a couple painted features to go in there too, once it’s ready. Plus added the new table, umbrella and cushions on the back patio.

This yellow room might have been in fashion at one time, but it had to go. Spending this weekend getting the wallpaper off, then will work to make it, and the connecting room, beautiful again. I was able to save a couple pieces to frame and hang in the room to honor the history. Hopefully will be finishing up these two rooms in the next couple weeks and can show you the after pics.
