✨ Live Fantasy Music at Calan Mai! ✨

We are thrilled to announce that Five Star R***e, an incredibly talented string quintet, will be performing at check-in and in the VIP Lounge both Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3, setting the perfect enchanting tone for the Masquerade!

This elite ensemble is made up of some of Alaska’s most accomplished musicians, all of whom have performed with the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, the Anchorage Opera, and numerous prestigious ensembles across the country. From Broadway productions to rock bands, hip-hop collaborations, and orchestral masterpieces, their versatility and artistry are unmatched.

Led by co-founders Katie Eakes and Katie Kroko, Five Star R***e features:
🎻 Marie Nielson – violinist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist with a passion for blending genres.
🎻 Katie Wasko – violinist and concertmaster, performing in orchestras and folk bands alike.
🎻 Pierre Derycz – cellist, composer, and Executive Director of Alaska Youth Orchestras.
🎻 Katie Kroko – violist, conductor, and music educator dedicated to expanding access to the arts.
🎻 Katie Eakes – bassist with Broadway, rock, and orchestral experience, performing across Alaska and beyond.

I am absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude for each and every person who came to our Calan Mai Masquerade meet and greet! Over 30 of us gathered at , and I couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful afternoon. A huge thank you to Snowy Berry for their warm hospitality and delicious food—they truly made the experience even more special!

What made this day so incredible was all of YOU—our growing fantasy fiction-loving community. Some of us had never met before, yet we laughed, played games, and created memories together that I will cherish forever. Seeing this event bring people together in such a meaningful way reminds me exactly why I do this.

We are thrilled to welcome Rhiannon Fleener, owner of Enchanting Artistry, as our live artist for both nights of the Calan Mai Spring Equinox Masquerade! 🎨✨ As a talented Alaskan artist with a background in theatrical set painting, Rhiannon’s work since 2008 has been showcased everywhere from the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Drawing inspiration from traditional fairytales and folklore, she will be creating a stunning live painting inside the ballroom each night—bringing the magic of the masquerade to life on canvas!
