HER OTHER SIDE performance A live performance project, this work interacts with the audience and undermines stereotypes mediating “American” and “Arab” female bodies.

Benali and Baker-Tarpaga mine the physical and imaginary by researching constraint and freedom, sexuality and identity, and social privilege and oppression. Hind Benali (Morocco/Compagnie Fleur D’Orange) and Esther Baker-Tarpaga (USA/Baker & Tarpaga Dance Project) met in 2003 at the Dialogue De Corps Festival in Burkina Faso and have developed this project with support from Marin Headlands Artist

in Residence, US Embasssy Rabat, Morocco, Action Danse Festival Morocco, The French Institute Marrakech, Morocco, The Ohio State University Department of Dance, Counterpulse, San Francisco, Espace Napam Beogo, Burkina Faso, and Centre Development Choreographique, Ouagadougou, and Highways Performance Space, Santa Monica, California.
