Oasis Blume creates the perfect flower lei po'o or lei 'a'i for every occasion.

Oasis Blume was created by DiAnne to bring a bit of Aloha to Arizona through leis. Each lei is carefully handcrafted by DiAnne to help you or your loved ones feel special whatever the occasion may be. There are 2 kinds of lei made at Oasis Blume: lei po'o (worn on the head) and lei 'a'i (worn around the neck). Most of these leis are made with fresh flowers and greens, however, Oasis Blume also sells lei 'a'i made with ribbon or candy.

Today is the last day of school for many kids in AZ, including my oldest. In honor of the hard work her teacher has put into making sure my girl and her classmates had the best year, I made two lei for her using roses, carnations, and hypericum berries. This will definitely be a year my daughter will never forget.

Not all leis can be made during nap time or once my girls have gone to bed and that is okay. I enjoy including them in the process. They’ve come with me to pick flowers, watched me clip flower heads and trim foliage, and even helped move flowers down the string when making a lei. When I have my little helpers, I know leis will take longer to create but including them in the experience is worth it.

The first time I remember seeing a double red carnation lei was around the neck of a previous Hawaii governor while he was in office. I was in awe of the large carnation blooms that created a thick, vibrantly red lei. To give a double red carnation lei is a big deal as it symbolizes love and admiration for the receiver.

I wanted to recreate the look of this lei with mini carnations so I used a poepoe-style pattern to make a full, round lei. Don’t be fooled by its looks though, this lei is HEAVY. Strung with more than 180 mini carnations, our double mini carnation lei will test the strength of your neck and shoulders. 😅 However, if you want to make a statement, this double mini carnation lei should be on your list.

I have to say that this Hypericum and Spray Rose lei has been my favorite lei so far. Inspired by the talents of Make it Megan, I had extra roses I wanted to use and more than enough berries. The weight and feel of this lei is like being buried in the sand on a hot day-- cooling, heavy, and a bit bumpy😄

P.S. Sometimes grabbing more flowers (or berries) than you needed can make the most unexpectedly beautiful of leis.

AND we're back! Just in time for Lei Day in Hawaii. I've been doing lots of designing lately and I am really enjoying stepping out of what I feel is expected.

I started off this year unsure of the future of Oasis Blume. Imposter syndrome and mom guilt were really doing a number on me. But pursuing something for me has helped me rediscover who I am in this time of my life. I really have my family to thank every step of the way. Despite the ups and downs, meals of saimin and chicken nuggets, and a sleep deprived me, they've been my biggest supporters.

I can't wait to share my most recent designs and projects. I have collected more photos than I've shared... oops 🤭

Made this keiki size lei po'o for my daughter to wear for her primary program. I took her with me to look at flowers and she chose the white hydrangeas 🤍 She said she felt like a princess. In my opinion, everyone should feel like royalty wearing a lei po'o 👑

Every time I make a lei, I am reminded of home and the culture and traditions I grew up with. The longer I’ve been away from home, the more I am reminded of how blessed I was to have been born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu.

I would love my girls to grow up surrounded by the Red Raider community and the overwhelming amount of strength and Aloha that can be felt from them. However, it is more important that my girls feel that Aloha spirit and share it with others no matter where we are.

Hopefully, they’ll also want to continue the tradition of making and giving leis too 😊

What is your cheapest lei? That lei po’o is how much? These are questions I get often. I understand being on a tight budget AND being taken back by prices so I’m going to share with you my formula for pricing my leis.

(Flowers/Foliage + Non-Flower Materials) + (Time Spent x Value of Experience)

Pretty basic.

Flowers and Foliage.
I get my flowers at a wholesale florist which gives me access to high-quality flowers and a greater variety than your typical grocery store. Their flowers and foliage are sold by the bunch or by the stem. Right now, bunches start at $5.00 and stems at $0.50. Usually, I need at least 2 bunches or 50 stems to make my lei ‘āʻī. For my lei po’o, I use at least 2 different types of flowers and 2 different types of greenery.

Non-Flower Materials.
Anything that isn’t a flower or foliage is categorized here. Some of those materials include raffia, string, floral wire, and packaging materials. The cost of these materials per lei does vary but is at least $5.00.

Time Spent.
Most of my time is spent in the preparation and creation of leis. Preparation includes driving to my wholesaler, picking out flowers, setting up my lei-making space with all my materials, and preparing the flowers and foliage to be used in the lei. Stringing or weaving the lei together can take 40 minutes to 2 hours depending on the length of the lei and how complicated the design is.

Value of Experience.
Setting a price on my abilities was definitely the hardest part of this formula. I had to remind myself that creating leis takes artistry and technique that I have spent years practicing so I give myself at least minimum wage.
