Our annual reminder. The time is coming! Time to prepare! Fireworks are already going off in many neighborhoods. 4th of July is right around the corner!

It's never too early to check fences and gates to make sure they are secure. Don't forget to look for wood piles or play equipment next to the fence that are climbable
It's never too early to check and make sure the information on your pets micro chip is current and correct. Or, if your pet is not micro chipped - there is time to get them chipped before the 4th

In addition, get collar and ID tags in case an accident happens and your pets get out. You can also write your contact info with a permanent marking pen on a cloth collar if all else fails to get done

THEN, before the BOOMS get bad, bring your pets that you can inside, make sure they have a safe and secure room to be in, or kennel, close the drapes, turn up your television to muffle the sound, laugh, play silly games with your pets to distract them, bake something that smells irresistible, give them safe things to chew on to soothe their brains. For animals known to be super reactive, check with your vet about a calming prescription, or using Rescue Remedy or put lavender in your essential oil diffuser. Think about what would make your pets the calmest possible under the situation where your animals think a war is being waged outside your home.

OR if possible you could stay home in your jammies with your pets and pop, pop, pop that popcorn. Taking the extra steps now is well worth the effort as opposed to the angst and worry about whether your animals are safe, warm and ever coming home.

And if you are thinking of participating with 4th of July fireworks, please keep it to the night of July 4th only, For all our pets sake, as well as the wildlife. Thank you.

UPDATE July 3, 2024 at 1:26 p.m. - Humboldt Transit Authority is offering free rides to anyone who needs a ride to a Cooling Center. Just let your bus driver know when you get on the bus.

📢 📢 In response to the extreme heat forecast for the coming days, Humboldt County is opening cooling centers at the Hoopa, Willow Creek and Garberville library branches. These centers will provide a safe and cool environment for residents seeking relief from the high temperatures that are expected to reach into the 100s in some locations. 📢📢

Cooling centers will be opened at the following locations and times:

These cooling centers will be equipped with air conditioning, water, seating and reading materials to ensure a comfortable and relaxing environment. Library staff will be on hand to assist visitors and provide information on staying safe during extreme heat.

Residents are reminded to take precautions during high temperatures, including staying hydrated, wearing light clothing and avoiding strenuous activities during peak heat hours. Special attention should be given to children, the elderly and pets, who are more susceptible to heat-related illness.

✨Be Safe with Fireworks! ✨

🔥 Ensure fireworks have been completely extinguished by soaking them in water before throwing them away. Fireworks that have not been extinguished are a huge fire hazard.
🐻 Pick up all firework remnants. Pieces left in the street will flow through the storm drains to the day causing harm to wildlife.

🌱 We can't wait to see you TOMORROW, Saturday, April 13 from 9am-12pm at 555 Vance Ave, Samoa for the 5th Annual Spring Garden Giveaway! There will be plenty of compost, seeds, and plants for FREE! Make sure to bring something for your compost- bags or buckets or truckbeds or trailers are fine. If you are using a truckbed, please bring a tarp to keep compost from flying away while driving. Residential use only!

🌧️Also be prepared incase it rains- this event will go on!!

Changes coming soon to "H" and "I" Streets!

Beginning this month, contractors will be striping the new lane configuration on "H" and "I" Streets from Harris to 6th Streets. The new setup will include two through lanes for motorized vehicles, with a buffered bike lane for safer and more comfortable non-motorized use of the roadway.

Due to some on going health issues and some new ones as well... I will not be at as many events this summer here in Humboldt County. I am taking a break for an undetermined length of time to do some heavy duty self healing work. I lost one of my dearest friends in November and my dog-daughter last Tuesday. Things are turned onto extra hard right now but... Like my balloons... I bounce 😍🎈🧚🏽‍♀️ light a candle and send your healing vibes. I'll be right here.

They offer their space as a partie rental now! They have great little Indoor space and a large covered Outdoor Space. They have all the plates and dinner ware you need.

The Makers’ Space room rental is $100 for a 3-hour Party. This time includes set up and take down of whatever decorations or party gear you bring in. You will have access to our small inside art studio as well as our covered outside space, bathroom, chairs, tables, plates cups and silverware.

Our studio space will be festively dressed for the season however please note that any party decor must be provided by either yourself or your party host.

Feel free to add an additional service by booking one of our talented artists and party hosts!

We do not provide cakes, party favors or pinatas! Please make sure you bring these fun additions if you’d like them.
All parties have a $50 cleaning deposit.

Looking for a fun woodland and fairy themed birthday party for your little one? Or balloon animals? How about a Tea Party? Do you just want to be crafty?

Tanya TeaFairy Nordberg is an Artist, a Performance Artist, and a Party Consultant. She offers a couple different party packages and works closely with many different local artists, entertainers, caterers and more.

A $50 Consultant Fee/ Deposit covers Tanya’s time while she helps book an additional artist, entertainment, caterer, etc and discuss your other Party Plans.

Party Packages are All 2 Hour Party packages. Prices are geared toward a party of 10 party guests/participants (additional attendance has additional fees.)

KATIE MATHER Katherine Mather of Nature's Mosaic
Katie is a local mosaic artist with a love for planning parties! She hosts mosaic workshops and parties all over Humboldt County and would love to work with you and your group to create the perfect creative event.

She offers stained glass mosaic heart rocks, plaques, house address signs, jewelry and light switch covers! Katie’s Workshop Parties are per person and prices vary depending on what project you choose. Katie’s Classes are great for kids ages 8 and up as well as family gatherings, work parties and adult art parties!

Melissa Fletcher
Melissa is a self-taught block print artist. Her art is inspired by her life experiences and Humboldt County’s abundance of beauty. She spends her free time hiking the redwoods with her children and exploring the intertidal looking for nudibranchs. Melissa has a degree in marine biology and enjoys subbing at local schools around Humboldt County. She loves working with kids of all ages but recommends block printing parties for kids ages 10 and older. Block printing parties are wonderfully diverse as you print on many different surfaces including bags, clothes, and paper goods!
Melissa’s parties run from $25-$50 per person depending on the workshop.
