September came rushing in, and this month's America's Soul Live at the Foothills Event Venue is coming right up! We're delighted to introduce two of the finest singer-songwriters you'll ever experience to ASL when Micki Fuhrman and James Kirby visit on Tuesday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. Micki hails from Nashville and is one of the country's foremost singers and writers in the Western and country genres. With an incredible voice and moving songs, she's one of the very best performers to grace our stage. James Kirby is an English performer/writer/singer touring America and blowing critics and concert-goers away. La Veta Mercantile's Emile Dubia told us he's phenomenal, and she's right. We're fortunate to have both Micki and James join Jon and Ernie for what promises to be a show for the books. The show starts at 7:00 p.m., with doors opening at 6:00. As always, come early and enjoy the fine food and drink at the Foothills Restaurant. Hope to see you on the 16th!

What a fine weekend in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. Such an incredibly beautiful area with fine folks everywhere. Pat's Midwestern roots are deep, and she felt right at home. My longtime pickin' pard Dana Vernon was on hand, and his brother, Rory Vernon, is part of the new Beef, Beans and Bluegrass Festival. Rory set things up, and the Festival's second year was a hit! I got to stand between two of my favorite pickers for two nightly shows, the first a fundraising event in Gering, and the second an outdoor show in downtown Scotts Bluff. Ernie Martinez and Dana really tore things up, and Rory joined us onstage for the Saturday show, as well. Pat and Mary McGinty made it up from Denver to join Pat, Diana, Ernie and me, and everyone had a ball. Can't wait to get back to ol' Nebraska. (So great to see Dana's daughter Dallas and her fiance, C**t, as well. A new home, a new car...and a new life together coming in April.)

La Veta, Colorado is so important in my life. My mother's ancestors settled there after their trek from Georgia in the 1860's and some of my best childhood memories involve fishing the Cucharas River with my Dad. La Veta is one of Colorado's overlooked jewels, and I remember as a young man talking with Louis L'Amour about what a fabulous place it was/is. Each summer, I'm excited to take the stage at Emile Dubia's amazing La Veta Mercantile to spend a couple of hours in Western heaven. What could be better than a Summer Fair in the Midwest? Nothin', that's what! Fans of America's Soul Live and Jon Chandler & the Wichitones should hightail it up to Scottsbluff/Gehring, Nebraska, Friday through Sunday, August 22 through 24, for BEEF, BEANS & BLUEGRASS, where I'll join string wizards Ernie Martinez and Dana Vernon for shows on Friday and Saturday. (The Friday show is a ticketed event with a catered meal, auction, and much more! Mmm.) This is Dana's home turf, and I'm all atwitter to play with a Nebraska homeboy who's one of the best pickers on the planet. All the info's below. See you in the tall corn in a couple of weeks.

My relationship with the Historic Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs is truly lifelong. Growing up, my family's only vacation each year was a couple of days at the Hot Springs in Glenwood Springs, often staying at the Hotel Colorado. Pat and I had our honeymoon there. Nearly 20 years ago, the hotel's management asked me to work with them on a variety of projects, which resulted in my recording, "The Grand Dame of the Rockies." I'm very proud of that effort, which included my WWA Spur-Award winning song that chronicles Doc Holiday's final days, Linwood. I'm fortunate enough to continue that relationship, and will have three early evening performances on the patio in the hotel's magnificent courtyard on Monday through Wednesday, August 11, 12, and 13. General Manager Larry MacDonald has promised great weather and even finer service at this grand old hotel. Hope you can make it to Glenwood Springs and join us in the courtyard!

Several years ago, I met Bethany Braley, who was busy creating The National Day of the Cowboy (NDC) as a labor of love. She was contacting politicians throughout the country to get their support for celebrating America's most unique characters with a National Day. At one point, I traveled to Nashville to play a show in support of NDC at the iconic Station Inn with Michael Martin Murphy, Juni Fisher, and Joyce Woodson. A wonderful evening! So, I was delighted when my pard Dennis Russell called and asked if Ernie and I could join him and several other cow-types to celebrate the 2025 Day of the Cowboy in Westcliffe, CO. I jumped on it. Westcliffe is one of my favorite spots in the state, and I'm excited to join so many friends in the shadow of the Wet Mountains. The poster below has all the info., so I hope you'll be able to head up to the hills on Saturday, July 26, to join us. See you then!

We have a wonderful America's Soul Live coming up on Tuesday, July 15. Your host (me) and your favorite picker (Ernie) will be joined by A Tale of Two and Uncle Kit Simon. A Tale of Two is a wonderful duo featuring amazing vocalist Stephanie Adlington and guitar master Aaron Lessard. We're delighted to have them join ASL for the first time. Kit Simon is one of ASL's favorites, with his Olde Town Pickin' Parlor hosting the event for 16 years. An astonishing picker and fine vocalist, we're glad to welcome him back to the stage. Doors open at 6 for the 7:00 show, so remember to come early and check out the fine food and drink at Foothills Restaurant. See you on the 15th.

I was excited when my old friends Candy and Steve Moulton got in touch with me and asked if I could travel to their part of the woods in Encampment, Wyoming with Ernie in tow to play the Grand Encampment Cowboy Gathering on July 18, 19, 20. Candy ramrodded Western Writers of America for a few decades and Steve is a rancher/artist/picker/singer who cut my song, The Spanish Peaks. It's been quite a few years since I've played the Gathering, and I encourage everyone to spend a weekend in God's Country to hear some great poets and singer/songwriters. I'm getting word that several friends, including Arlin Brower and Jesse C**ter, will be on hand, so take the gorgeous drive to Encampment and experience one of the most unique and genuine cowboy gatherings in the country.
