Oregon strawberry season is here and most days you can find me shoveling them down like a bear over my kitchen counter.. they are simply delicious.
I’ve noticed strawberry shortcake on the dessert menus at a handful of my events, sometimes replacing cake at a wedding or part of a dessert bar.
Build your own or served in a cute glass, I will always greenlight this idea....a sweet way to add local flavor to the menu

The Dollhouse Inn of Astoria provided a dreamy location for Annah's under the sea baby shower.
I collaborated with her family to provide styling support and helped bring their decor wishes & ideas to fruition.
The Inn offers a kitchen for food & beverage prep & a collection of mixed antique plates, glassware and tea sets to utilize for events. I assisted the hosts with staging their lunch & beverage stations.
The formal living room is a cozy gathering space with plush lounge furniture & a gorgeous fireplace area to decorate.
Lavender and teal led the way for the styling choices. The family created homemade coral pieces, a balloon arch and a treasure chest with a collection of jewels fit for a little mermaid.
With a visit to I created small arrangements with delphinium, jasmine & freesia in pearlescent vases.
Congrats to Annah & family as you welcome your baby this June, it was a joy to assist with your plans in this special time 💜

A welcomed early bird guest, come on in friend just don’t eat the flowers…
Planning events out here on the Coast can be a wild experience.
Sharing a few ideas to keep in mind to help keep your guests comfortable and engaged at your next North Coast event.
⚫The Shade: The Irish lady in me will always recommend a bit of shelter from the sun for an outdoor event, if tenting is not an option consider natural shade or overhead draping panels.
⚫Bugs! Depending on the location bugs may or may not be an issue, setting up near a natural pond or a heavily wooded area? Provide a small basket of natural repellents or light up a firepit for an outdoorsy affair
⚫Keep it Cozy: Even during the summer months guests traveling to the area may be on the chilly side, a small basket of blankets for when the sun goes down is a classy touch
⚫Where Am I? Traveling to the Coast can be a journey, equip your guests with a few local highlights, restaurants, resources, and notes on how to dress for the area.

Zhuzh ~ to make something more interesting or attractive by changing it slightly or adding something to it ✨
Small improvements with impactful results are what I strive for when I am styling an event.
A few touches added to Amy & Dan’s reception bar included vibrant florals and vines to soften the edges, custom napkins featuring Queen Moxie 👑🐾, hanging garden globes and a bar shelf with items connected to the couple.
Turning basic into extraordinary, challenge accepted for all aspects of life.

Spring & summertime menus never disappoint with fresh colorful ingredients after a long & rainy winter season. The team over always delivers on both taste & presentation to complete the bingo card.
Guests may or may not remember that special chair rental that you milled over for nights, but they will remember a delicious & thoughtfully planned meal shared together.
Of course those chairs & other special details do count in the big picture, but as you make your priority list food is an ideal place to lead ✨

Emily & Trevor’s Wedding, A Story of Reroutes, Rainbows and Ranunculus
Somewhere over The Megler…
With less than two months till their wedding day, Emily & Trevor received the unexpected news that no engaged couple wants to hear as plans are coming together. An unforeseen construction issue was canceling their wedding venue plans, and we had to start from square one to find a new location.
Following a few internal screams and some quick thinking, we swiftly rerouted the initial plans and landed safely over The Megler Bridge at the Historic Chinook School Event Center, in Chinook, WA.
With April showers in full effect, we once again had to adjust Emily & Trevor’s outdoor ceremony plans. The Historic School Building provided us with a charming last-minute wedding ceremony space. A surprise rainbow appeared just after their ceremony adding to the magic of the day ✨
Along with the help of their encouraging friends and family, and a trusted team of Astoria Oregon event vendors, Emily and Trevor navigated through the big changes of the wedding weekend with grace and a sense of humor.

A look back at all the pretty details arranged for Valentine’s Tea by The Sea this past Saturday at the Benjamin Young Inn.
Once again J. Rickey Events teamed up with Tea by the Sea Host, Marianne Monson to provide styling and hospitality support for the event.
In partnership with Trudy Van Dusen Čitovic, Marianne has been hosting the tea series set in historical homes of Astoria including the Rosebriar Manion and Benjamin Young to date.
Tea by the Sea provides guests with an occasion to relax and make good conversation with new and old friends in an enchanting environment. They enjoyed a selection of specialty teas, pastries and a savory soup course followed by live music and a home tour.
Styling complimented the built-in character of the home, blending antique glassware, a mix of vintage tea ware, delicate roses, tulips, anemones and magnolia branches, velvet hearts and iridescent accents paired with hand-painted Valentine’s by Marianne.
Inviting you to join Tea by the Sea at one of their upcoming seasonal events. Fancy hats are welcome but optional, come as you are to sip and savor in appreciation of the dreamier side of life 💕

At Brittany & Cory’s Seaview wedding I teamed up with King Tide Mobile Beverage Co. to infuse the flavors of the day into their bar menu and styling.
Sharing a few tips to dress up your next event bar…
>A back bar shelf adds room for glassware and can be a space to display décor and memorable items.
>Guests will find their drink of choice with the help of an easy-to-read menu.
>Add Vibrant berries and herbs for a fresh garnish and pop of color.
>Here on the coast napkin holders are a must as the breeze is always sneaking in.
>A cute table lamp will add a soft glow as the evening rolls along

Hello out there! Thank you for following along and for your support. As 2024 cruises along I wanted to reintroduce myself and share a few updates for
If you may only know me from a distance, I’m Jen the lady behind J. Rickey. Growing this business has been my passion these past few years. At each event I think of how lucky I am to be following this dream and creating memorable experiences.
In May my husband Bob and I are planning to welcome a baby and this will bring some reroutes to the current path. I will be taking time to get settled and focus on my family for a few months.
What does this mean for the business?...
To quote a favorite, “I’ve been keeping my ducks in a row,” for existing events to keep on course while I am on leave and will be welcoming new events for the Fall 2024. I will also be offering planning/consulting services behind the scenes for The Rosebriar Mansion and associated venues. I am also teaming up with trusted vendor friends who can provide onsite support when needed.
During this first part of the year, I’ve been visiting new and familiar venues and connecting with local vendors on how to best provide solutions for Oregon Coast events.
Through the summer months I will be available for event consulting services. If you find yourself in need of planning assistance, I invite you to rent my event experience.
Community is what keeps events alive on the Coast so if there is a way I can learn more about your business and support you through this time please reach out to say hello. Wrapping up a year of events with Holiday Tea at The Rosebriar Mansion, hosted by Tea By The Sea Astoria.
I assisted with Tea By the Sea to provide planning and styling services for her second tea party hosted in Astoria, OR.
To maximize our styling resources, I led with the teal runners and antique pink glassware found at The Rosebriar to pair with the vibrant pink roses Marianne favored. Hand painted taper candles, sparkling crystal and plenty of glowing accents created a festive setting ✨
Along with a home tour and live music, guests enjoyed their choice of tea served with butternut squash soup by and later gingerbread, salted caramel, hazelnut macarons and chocolate cardamom cake with blackberry glaze by

Fresh from the Planner’s notebook, sharing a handful of notes as your select your wedding venue. Along the Coast I’ve encountered a range of venue challenges at times. As your planner I will always weigh function over photo opps, asking “how does this all work?”
Today I am considering these notes to set you up for success with your indoor venue search…
⚪How long do you have the space, factor in your event time, vendor load, setup and decorating plans
⚪Will there be a rep. from the venue available on your event day to troubleshoot venue issues. I will get familiar with the space as your planner, but rely on the venue to manage facility issues ranging from lighting to plumbing matters, I’ve seen it all.
⚪Are tables and chairs or any in-house inventory included and are there setup options?
⚪Parking and accessibility for all.. I’m considering parking for guests, load in/out for vendors and comfortable access for guests with limited mobility once onsite
⚪.."The water is a little brown, but it is safe,” I’ll never forget that reply from a venue contact as I fell off my chair. What are the kitchen options (if any) for your catering team? Lack of a sink for food and beverage service will affect your overall budget, food & bev choices.
⚪ Restrooms – One restroom per 50 guests, not the glam side of the biz but a necessity. I often joke with my clients, “parking and powder rooms can make/break the day.”
⚪Waste/Trash Removal – avoid post wedding fees by minding the fine print
⚪Alcohol Service Requirements: I choose to operate in spaces with a safe alcohol policy, no unlicensed friends cracking cold ones from a cooler on my watch & a red flag at venues who choose to look away.
⚪ Insurance policy: recommended for most events nowadays this will protect both you and the venue from unfortunate mishaps that may occur on wedding day.
⚪What are the decorating policies and how does the tear down timeline work.
I'm in favor of the venues that lead with accountability and give client’s the full event experience in their house ✨

Welcome beverages, a nice touch to let your guests know you are thinking about them at the gate.
Drink walls, champ towers or tray passed are common options. Sharing a few notes to keep in mind as you plan your welcome bevies.
⚫Avoid a bottleneck- place your display or service team in a location to invite guests into the event space, but allows for a flow of traffic
⚫Beyond the booze- not everyone will be reaching for a cocktail, no questions asked..Try to be mindful of all the guests in the group as you select your offerings.
⚫Freshen up an older trend - use an eye catching paper print behind a champ wall to compliment your event styling. The addition of greens and hanging flowers on clear string will add an elevated look
⚫Lastly, be sure to select drinkware that aligns with the moment & for each stage of the day. Working with a budget?- select a versatile option such as stemless glass to work with water, wine & cocktails.

Sharing a few notes from planner’s perspective for your upcoming Friendsgiving tables and holiday events….
Inspiration Piece: Now is the time to feature Grandma’s gorgeous antique dinnerware or a fun set of napkin rings you picked up.
A dash of color: Table linens are an ideal way to add an impactful pop of color, create balance with a coordinated runner and napkin set or be bold with monochromatic layering featuring a key color.
Mind Your Menu: Planning on a multi course- plated, family style or buffet style dinner? Each style requires a unique setup in terms of spacing and plating requirements.
Guest Comforts: Is the vibe off among any guests? Place cards are a subtle way to avoid seating guests who may appreciate a bit of (e-hem) space in between. Hopefully the lovely setting you are creating will help to squash those beefs in the spirit..but in the meantime, placecards!
Fire-Safety-Jen here: Sure those exposed tapers look lovely in editorial, but in real life hurricanes and candle holders will keep your styling both classy & safe as dishes and cheers are shared.
Add a little somthin'… I like to stop by the local florist to pick up a sprig of seasonal berries, herbs or florals for one more added touch.
