River Cruises Are Way Better Than Ocean Cruises!
Aboard an ocean cruise, you may spend several days in a row out at sea, but river cruises provide ever-changing scenery.
Even longer cruises offer consistent, scenic experiences as smaller vessels sail along the banks of waterways in some of the world’s most famous cities, like Berlin, Vienna, and Beijing.
The boats used for river cruises are smaller, and while they may not have all the luxurious amenities of larger vessels, like decked-out spas and extensive gyms, they tend to be a more all-inclusive experience.
This means most food and beverages, as well as off-boat excursions, will be included in the ticket price.

If you tend to get seasick, being out on the open sea for days at a time with no land in sight may not be the best move. River cruises are a better choice for those worried about nausea — as they move through shallow, less choppy waters and land is always in sight.
Since you’ll be spending more time in the cities you visit on a river cruise, this provides more opportunity to experience the local cuisine and culture.
River cruises are quieter.. Several thousand guests vs. 100 or so means that the river cruising experience will be much quieter in general.
Ocean cruise ships may have the benefit of packing big restaurants, bars, water parks, and more into one place — but you’d be hard-pressed to find a truly quiet area. River cruises, on the other hand, can be quite tranquil.

Visitax- the airport tax/fee that supports environmental protection & cleanup in the state is a tax/fee for all visitors departing Quintana Roo- Cancun, Cozumel, Tulum and Chetumal….

Q: Which website(s) are legitimate for visitors to pay Visitax on?
A: https://www.visitax.gob.mx/sitio/ is the official government website and https://travelkore.app is authorized by the Quintana Roo government (Travelkore charges a little bit more). There are many convincing sites with similar addresses so be sure to double check that you are accessing one of two official sites. The sites do not function on mobile (telephone) apps. It is best to use a windows based laptop or desktop computer.

Q: Can guests pay Visitax at their hotel or the airport in cash?
A: No, at this time is can only be paid online. It is recommended to pay prior to travel-wifi and reception at the airport is not great.

Q: What is the cost of Visitax?
A: It is 271MXN per person directly with the government or $17.00USD with Travelkore.

Q: Why do visitors have to pay this tax if no one is checking?
A: Because it’s a mandatory tax and is the law

Q: What happens if visitors don’t pay?
A: If you are spot checked at the airport gate side and you don't have a QR code, there is no penalty system in place yet and the only recourse is to pay for your current visit. If they inquire about previous visits to the state since December 2022 then you will be made to pay for past visits as well.

As per direct communications with the government via their support channels, they reserve the right to place observations on your passport for any unpaid taxes back to December 2022. An official source commented that they plan to implement spot checks for missed payments.

Authorities do not plan on setting the penalty amount until after elections (June 2nd 2024), but digital tracking is currently in full force.

Q: I see there is a tourism tax included in my airline ticket. Is that Visitax?
A: No, that is a different tax. Visitax is not included in any airline tickets or vacation packages

Q: Do visitors flying into Cabo or Puerto Vallarta need to pay Visitax?
A: No, Visitax is only for tourists flying into Quintana Roo: Cancun airport, Cozumel airport, Tulum airport and Chetumal airport.

Q: Do children need to pay Visitax?
A: Yes, all visitors have to pay, regardless of age.

Q: It asks for “departure date”. Is that departure from the US/Canada or Mexico?
A: It is departure from Mexico-the date you leave Mexico

Q: What if visitors put in the wrong date?
A: It’s best for the date to be correct so it matches with immigration entry/exit records. Please email [email protected] and let them know and they can change it for you, or give you advice on next steps. If you use Travelkore, dates and other details can be modified on their platform.

Q: How can I verify my QR code, or find it if they don’t know how to access it?
A: Enter the passport number here: https://www.visitax.gob.mx/sitio/busqueda.php. If you cannot INSTANTLY verify your QR code by typing in your passport number, then you have purchased through a fraudulent site and should dispute the charge with your credit card company immediately

Q: My question was not answered in this Q&A, what do I do?

Q: This is so dumb and annoying they should include it in the airline tickets. Why don’t they?
A: This tax is only for tourists, and many residents fly into this state, so it cannot be included in the airline tickets without much hassle for those living here.
