Good morning all! I’m often asked about the topic of renting linen vs buying linen. I want to give you some food for thought on the logistics side of things:
- Where will you buy linen from and will they have the correct color in stock? Will it look like what you ordered online? Many times, unless you know the details of the fabric, you may not get what you think is ordered.
-Will you have enough linen for the unexpected? Sometimes additional guests show up, sometimes linen can come damaged (this happens often) or something can happen at setup.
-Where will you store them before and after the wedding? Linen can be quite cumbersome, and the boxes can take up a lot of space.
-Will you have time to prep and press them, and before you say “dry cleaning”, go to your local dry cleaners and ask how much it costs to press the tablecloth size you’re willing to buy? It might shock you😉
-Who’s placing the linens on the tables? Many times, you won’t have time to do a setup yourself before hand.
-Who’s stripping the tables? What are you putting dirty linen in? Remember, you have to wash them quickly or the stains will set, and let’s not even get into the possibility of mold!
- Lastly, what if they don’t sell on marketplace? Have you seen the amount of stuff people try to sell from their wedding to recoup funds? It’s massive!
I always recommend renting because you don’t have to worry about any of these things above. Sure you may save a few dollars purchasing, however, you’ll spend more time on the prep/DIY aspect.
