I have been waiting to share this beautiful video for so long! It tells the birth story of a woman who I would have described as a colleague or acquaintance before, but who (after this experience), I now call FRIEND.

It’s the story of how birth doesn’t always go as we plan, but the resilience of women to literally PUSH through unforeseen obstacles and bring life into the world despite them.

It’s the testimony of women supporting women. Grandmothers, great grandmothers, aunts, midwives, and daughters—they all come together to encourage and sometimes literally hold up a woman going through the most physically taxing event of this life.

It’s also (EEEK!!) the first video I’ve done in collaboration with Mama Sing My Song—who wrote and performed the beautiful music and lyrics.

I say it all the time, but I LOVE what I do.

And for the most physically tasking performance on earth--giving birth--he didn't choose the physically stronger man.

He chose woman.

Some may see childbearing as a curse, but the love that blossoms from bringing life into the world is the most beautiful blessing of all. ✨

A pregnant's woman's belly isn't the only that grows during pregnancy.

The hormone relaxin contributes to ligaments softening and loosening all over the body, including in the feet!

B) lie awake pondering the fact that big families used to be the norm

THE REVEAL.

You guys. These faces make every middle-of-the-night phone call . I love being able to deliver the final product and watch mom and dad's reactions to seeing their baby enter the world from an entirely different perspective.

So often I hear women say "I don't remember saying that!" or "I don't remember that happening!"

Birth is obviously intense! And oftentimes the laser focus that is required can short-circuit our memories. Add that to taking care of newborn (and possibly older children) and it can be HARD to remember the WORK women do to bring new life into the world.

And I *love* helping them re-live it!

Let me tell you. Running a business is HARD. WORK.

I was prepared for the sleepless nights, but the creative work (filming, editing, meeting clients) is the highlight of my job! Everything else (marketing, budgeting, social media) is where it can become very easy to get discouraged.

Enter St. Johns Moms ladies in business group.

It is SO refreshing to meet with other women business owners and see and hear their stories. I always leave encouraged!

Lame as it may sound, it makes me think of that old African proverb: "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

When it comes to childbirth education, I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to hear anything I didn’t already know (working in birth and being a mother to three), but I was so surprised to hear about birth and postpartum from a biblical perspective. I saw a post from a small business owner a couple of days ago where she described a comment that upset her. She was a jewelry maker, and a follower criticized her by saying that she wasn't actually 'creating' jewelry she just was just 'assembling' pieces. The business owner wrote in the post "instead of being argumentative, I decided to delete the comment."

And while I am 💯 in support of removing/blocking comments that are hateful or crude, we can sometimes miss opportunities to educate others! For the jewelry maker, I felt like it could have been the perfect occasion to describe the artistry, talent, and skill that goes into her craft.

In the field of childbirth, misinformation ABOUNDS y'all! There is sooooo much ignorance about birth. Heck, there is TONS I still don't know! I learn more every day about this miracle.

But that unfamiliarity can be passed down to next generation--exacerbating fear and myths.

So if you're a woman: do whatever you can to witness a physiological birth at least once in your life.

If you're a business owner: don't let the haters get you down. Educate on ignorance when you can. You never know who is reading the comments ❤✨

This birth represents so many FIRSTS for me. First birth I have ever photographed. First birth where I was asked to step in and act as the midwife’s assistant (which was awesome!). First birth I’ve been at where every person (4, to be exact), was a follower of Christ. And the first birth I’ve filmed under my LLC!

Even though I was there to take pictures (shout out to my client for being my practice model!), I couldn’t stop myself from taking video footage; I knew I had to make a birth film for her.

It was challenging, but I successfully was able to take photos and get enough footage to make this short film. (And hold sterile instruments and chart baby stats 🤪)

So...I'm excited to announce that I am now offering two packages for expecting mamas to choose from: the OG (birth film) or film + photos.

I am beyond excited for this new venture!

FUN FACT ✨

Did you know changing positions can drastically affect labor?

If labor slows down, switching to all fours, squatting down, or even side lying can help things pick back up again.

It's amazing to watch a woman intuitively move into a different position--often moments before baby emerges. Her body knows what to do!
