A wedding officiant, also known as a marriage officiant or celebrant, is someone who is ordained or authorized to perform the role of a legal marriage ceremony. Without this authorized person, a marriage cannot be legally binding in the state of Texas (and most US states).
A wedding officiant is the leader of the ceremony. They work with the couple to prepare for the ceremony and perform the marriage on the day of. This can include; creating a customized and proper ceremony and script, conducting or participating in the wedding rehearsal, signing and legally executing the marriage license and filing the license with the appropriate offices of record.
