It's been a bit, both since a post and since an event. Lotta reasons, mostly my own personal health in 2019, then... well, y'know.

The bail project is a non-profit dedicated to ending the cash bail system. This isn't the place to go into why cash bail is bu****it, and I'm not an expert, but please check them out if you're curious why it's such a common topic of conversation associated with the protests going on currently.

So what about Dual Core?

Dual core was the latest addition to our lineup, and this will also be their first time gracing our stage. We met them originally at PAX South 2018, and given that I got my start in my current career at a digital security company, I have a particular fondness for the hacker/security inspired nerd wrap they sometimes deploy. That being said, I think I probably would have to pick "Natural 20s" for my favorite song.

So let's talk about Bitforce.

Surprisingly (and surely an oversight on our part!) Bitforce has yet to grace the stage at a Hometown Throwndown. We've worked with them at our last SXSW showcase, and on the PAX South Jamspace, but we've never hosted them personally before, and we're excited to finally get the opportunity to do so! Also, a little bird told us that Joseph will be celebrating his birthday that night. Come out and make him feel special! This Saturday, August 25th!

Star Fighter Dreams is a San Antonio-based electronic musician. Utilizing handheld electronics running limited software, he crafts highly danceable tunes that will rattle soundsystems.

I know we have a throwdown coming up this weekend, and y'all need to get hyped up for that and come through, but let's take a hot second and congratulate our boy EyeQ (Chris Allen) for winning Orlando Weekly's 2018 Best Hip-Hop Act.

Lord knows he deserves it.

As long as we're talking about music for the night, it would be remiss of us not to take a second to talk about DJ R.O.C.K.M.A.N.

Vincent and I first worked together on the Classic Game Fest Afterparty, in 2016. Since then, we've followed each other all over Austin, and there's no end in sight.

But you don't care about the business end, you care about the b***y bangers, which he delivers, consistently and enthusiastically. And on top of just getting your b***y shaking, no one does more for the central Texas nerdcore scene than DJ R.O.C.K.M.A.N., and he deserves your love, so come on out Saturday and show it.

I'm spending lots of time promoting our next throwdown and all (6/23 at Kick Butt, come thru!), but I need to take a second to plug Raging Ego, dropped by Lex the Lexicon Artist this week.

I met Lex when she was in town for SXSW, and I worked with the NPC Collective on their showcases during that week. I got to hear her really excellent, high energy stage performances, but I just got the chance to listen all the way through her first full length release (don't tell her that it took me 2 whole days to find the time for it!)

It's... really impressive. I enjoy hip hop/rap shows, but usually don't listen to much in my private time. I found the entire album to be both witty and extremely genuine in both a humorously self effacing and a disarmingly sincere way.

I highly recommend it to anyone interested in nerdy hip hop, good lyrical flows, or promoting the representation of normally underrepresented voices in both the hip hop and nerdy spaces.
