For Anyone wondering about playing Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the moon Album for the eclipse today:

Figure Out the Proper 'Dark Side' Start Time
To maximize the musical and emotional impact of the moment, you should listen to the entirety of The Dark Side of the Moon as part of your 2024 solar eclipse experience. To do so on Spotify, you'll need to start the album 41 minutes and 53 seconds before the start of the total eclipse in your location. If you're listening on CD, vinyl or another streaming service, there may be slight variations in the running time, so be sure to check ahead. You also might want to make sure in advance that you won't be interrupted by any ads.

Will Arkansas be able to see the eclipse, or will it be cloudy? 👀

Below is a blend of data with cloud cover percentage courtesy of JAM Mart (go see them! 😎).

Blue = higher odds for clouds

Gray = lesser odds for clouds

One thing is clear, viewing across the northern half of Arkansas (let’s just say along and north I-40) looks okay.

Even if there is clouds in this area, it should be high level, wispy thin clouds.

We want to avoid the dense, thick mid-level clouds. This might be more common across south Arkansas (blue shading).

With Texas having this problem, expect more visitors in our region than previously anticipated.

It is possible that many will make the extra travel north to Missouri, Illinois, etc.

Bottom line, it looks like we’ll have pretty fair viewing here in Arkansas!

Data can change so we’ll see, but I’m liking the trends right now.

The difference between being in the path of totality and out of it is night and day!

If you are in places like Fort Smith, Lonoke, Pine Bluff, or Fordyce (among others), think about making the short drive into the path for the TOTAL eclipse!

1918, the last Total Eclipse in arkansas.

Last week, we highlighted some of the news coverage from the 1834 solar eclipse. Arkansas was again in the path of totality of a solar eclipse in 1918. The eclipse happened on June 8th but articles were ran well before that to prepare residents for the event. This April 18, 1918 issue of the Arkansas Gazette had a long article about the upcoming event.

Lets talk eclipse eye safety for just a moment.

If at any point you want to view the partial eclipse (which begins at 12:29 in southwest Arkansas and ends at 3:14 in northeast Arkansas), you will HAVE to have special eclipse viewing glasses!

Viewing sunlight directly is very damaging to the eyes. Be sure not to use sunglasses or a sun shade to view a partial eclipse.

On the other hand, during the 2 to 4 minute total eclipse, it is SAFE to take off your glasses and view the total eclipse.

Be sure you are not watching the total portion of the eclipse too close to the end so you are not blinded as totality ends!

Solar eclipse glasses are still for sale all over the place if you need them!
