Arise & Shine Gardens was born out of a lifelong love of flowers and the land. Kate grew up on a farm, but joined the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating high school to escape the small town life. Upon being honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps, Kate settled into a legal career working as a patent paralegal for over 30 years. Kate always wanted to return to farm life, however, it wasnāt until her first grandson was born, and a less than desirable work situation, Kate decided to live by the words she had preached to her children their entire lives...āfollow your dreams, do what you love and you will never work a day in your life.ā
With this new perspective, Kate applied for and was accepted to the Turner Farm Veteran to Farmer Apprenticeship Program. She successfully completed the program in February 2019, and Arise & Shine Gardens was officially born. During Kateās time at Turner Farm, she learned floral design from Melinda OāBriant, the Director of Education for Turner Farm. It was during this time, Kate caught the wedding bug.
Kate currently does not have her own farm, but is currently searching for the perfect place. In the meantime, some pretty awesome friends of hers do have a farm, and they let her grow on a 1/4-acre plot. Their daughter, Amber, helps out and is excited to learn the ropes of the specialty cut flower business.
With Kateās focus on supplying local Cincinnati florists with quality specialty cut flowers, Kate still felt she could do better. So, she decided to invest in herself and the farm by attending Floretās online workshop course in early 2019. If anyone follows flowers, Floret is the biggest name in the business. It was while working through this course work, Floret revealed, and Kate agreed, that there was an unmet need in the wedding market. With the encouragement of friends and family, along with the support and partnership with Melinda OāBriant, Arise & Shine Gardens was excited to announce that they would be offering a la carte menu wedding services in 2020. This service offers a more economical solution for brides on a budget.
