Did you know we are growing ranunculus? They might not actually be roses, but they are called the rose of spring! They were the very first flowers I grew in my cutting garden back in Louisiana, and I immediately fell in love. I have grown them every year since! Hopefully they do well this year and you will see them at the market; these are my “fun” flowers and I don’t grow them in a greenhouse, so it’s really up to Mother Nature!

I’m usually more of a pink girlie but the neutral tones in this beauty are hard not to love! Another 2025 addition 💕

As the new year approaches, this next growing season is becoming very real. I’m nervous, excited, and so hopeful that this next year will be a big year for our little farm 💕 things are about to get very messy when we start prepping for our huge shipment of bare root roses, so I’m enjoying looking at the pretty pictures I’ve taken over the past few years to remind myself of the beautiful outcome. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be where I am today 😆

This is one of the varieties I am most excited to grow for the 2025 season! I’m impatient, so I have to give a little sneak peek, but I’m not naming names yet 😆

I met SO many amazing flower friends this season, but I don’t think I’ve actually introduced myself online. My name is Emily and I’m the owner of Thorncrest Rose Farm! I moved to this area with my husband in February 2020 after graduating with a degree in Climatology. Great timing, right? 🙃 Needless to say, I struggled to find a job at the height of the pandemic. When I became pregnant with my first baby, I realized I probably didn’t want to continue searching for a 9-5 job, and decided to take a huge leap to follow a passion I have always had for flowers. I started this farm after seeing a hole in the local flower market; finding local roses is SO difficult, and I’m hoping to help reduce the number of imported roses our local designers need to use! I can’t wait to see what beauty the future has in store for us!

I’m already having flower withdrawals since we aren’t harvesting any more this year 🫠 I’ve gotten so spoiled having fresh roses in my house every day. It’s going to be a rough winter. We need a greenhouse STAT!

What an absolutely incredible first season! While our roses are still blooming, we are letting our plants (and ourselves, let’s be honest 😩) rest and will not be cutting any more stems to sell until the spring. We have SO MUCH coming over the next year! This first season was a baby step and it went better than I could have ever imagined. Even though it feels like it’s so far away, I am so excited for our next season; get ready for armloads of beautiful blooms!

P.S. I will still be posting here throughout the dormant season!
