Putting events together, requires one to roll with the punches. Often working under serious time crunches, there’s no time to fix things that drive you crazy, (like the T and H that I strung backwards in “50th” for this surprise party). I had limited time to check into the Airbnb, set up all the banners I made with my new handy dandy machine, put together cocktails and a cheese + cupcake spread before they walked through the door. I noticed the “HT” immediately and had it not been for this kind and understanding group, I probably would have taken it down; but I thought they might get a kick out of it so I left it up and I’m not mad about it.
The worst mistake to date was Easter morning when I stayed up until 12am juicing cucumbers, got up at 7 and poured a small taste of the cucumber mocktail to make sure the flavors had come together, closed the fridge and came back 5 minutes later to discover the closing door had opened the nozzle and 2 gallons of cucumber juice with sugar, mint and lime juice had poured into my refrigerator… right at the when I was supposed to be walking out the door to set up Easter brunch for 25 people.
I wanted to cry, but I decided to laugh, perspective is everything and letting it ruin my day was going to help anything. My wonderful partner ran to the store while I tried to mitigate the damage of the spill and returned with 20 cucumbers. We peeled, juiced and I ran out the door with a little less, but still plenty of time to bring Easter together. Plus, the second iteration tasted even better than the first.
Looking at each misstep as an opportunity for growth and a reminder to never do THAT again, helps me keep it light and continue to enjoy these sweet opportunities to be creative. Thanks for following along whilst I grow! 🌱🤍
