Way back in the day when I was first starting as a newspaper photographer at the Telegraph Herald in Dubuque, Iowa, the newspaper had this thing called Friends and Neighbors. It was used to fill empty spaces in the newspaper and a photographer would go do a picture of a random person, ask some basic questions, and get to the next assignment. I loved doing that and could never talk The Bulletin into doing it. So now that I’m long gone from The Bulletin and finally invested in a really fun camera (the Fuji XT-5) I can do my own. This is MJ who works at the front desk of the outdoor pool at the Athletic Club of Bend. She’s studying journalism at the University of Washington. I did my best to talk her out of it, but she seems like a stubborn person - which helps in journalism. I did a picture of her answers. It was such fun doing one of these again after so long that I’m wanting to do more. Also, unlike me, she can text with two thumbs. Me? Index finger one letter at a time.
