Missouri Lounge Wednesday Night Open Mic

7 to 10 pm Hosted by Paul Pot. Open Mic starts around 7:00 to 7:15. All styles, mostly music. No Cover. 21 & over. No cover, drinks and bbq reasonable.

List goes out at about 7. 1 to 2 songs depending on the amount of people on the list. The Missouri Lounge Wednesday Night Open Mic was named 2014'S BEST OPEN MIC in the East Bay Express's Best in the East Bay Poll. They did not have an award in that category this year. Write the Express and let them know if you want the category back. 2016 is an election year and you should have your say. Until then we choose not to abdicate the throne and must be toppled.

Have you been to see my ongoing show of dive bar drawings that is up at The Rite Spot? The show has been delighting the patrons there for over a year and a half now. Have you not been delighted yet? Well, go have a drink at the Rite Spot, or maybe hear some music, and take a look at one of the things I have been doing for a while now. I'll be glad you did.... wait.... that's a.... I got it now...... you'll be glad you did. The Rite Spot is open Tuesday - Saturday starting at 5 pm.

Save the date: Friday, June 14 5:30-7:00. I am on the calendar for a second artist reception and musical show at The Rite Spot. I will be adding four new bar drawings to my unexpectedly ongoing art show (it was supposed to end quite a while ago.) Come to see, chat, and listen before I head off to Florida again. And it’s happy hour!

This Saturday is Free Comic Book Day. Come by Escapist Comics and pick up your free copy of our own free comic written and drawn by the store staff. I have a 3 page story in it about when a 13 year old me asked my grandparents to take me to Greenwich Village to buy a record album in 1968.

It is also Star Wars Day. May the 4th be with you.

The drawing of Captain Tony's Saloon is now up at The Rite Spot. If you haven’t seen my bar drawings yet, there is still time as my two month art show is now in it’s 13th month. I enjoy drawing them and really like how they turned out. Some are of local bars and some from other places like here in Florida. I am currently working on a picture of the Green Parrot, another bar in Key West. Seeing the drawings is something you can do in SF for free, unless you choose to have a drink at the bar/cafe or tip the local musicians that they support..want a piece of toast, all right butter and marmalade OK yeah really windy……Sorry, I was talking to my mother and the dictation was on. Check the drawings out and I hope to be checking on you when I get back home.

In the limited time I have had to myself (when I’m not too tired taking care of Mom) I’ve gone out and drawn a few of the local bars. Some real dives, but a lot more are tourist and snowbird spots. But of course at my show which I believe is still up at the The Rite Spot, nobody knows anything about these dive bars. I found out that it’s real cheap to take the bus to Key West. A lot of the bars are tourist bars, but a few of them have real long histories. One of them is Captain Tony's Saloon. It is one of the oldest bar locations in Key West and the original location of Sloppy Joes. They built the bar around Keys West’s hanging tree but the tree top blew off during a hurricane. Bob Dylan drank there while writing his song “Key West: Philosopher Pirate.” He has a stool with his name on it.

My daughter is going to put this picture up on the wall in the next week or so. You should check out my show and patronize the Ritespot because they support local music with shows five nights a week.

Originally from Chicago. Bay area denizen, sound guy, guitar man, producer (The Happy Clams “I’m All Steamed Up, Baby” album) regular at Missouri Lounge Wednesday Night Open Mic, Hannuklaus, pain-in-the-ass, and friend. He would celebrate his annual 50th birthdays at the mic every October. Here are some of the flyers. Actually, I don’t see him resting in peace. Turn it up wherever you are!
