It's "National Chocolate Candy Day." I remember as a child that there were certain relatives that always gave out boxes of candy for holiday gifts, so there were always several of them available the week after Christmas.

What are your favorite types? I tend to go for the dark chocolate with caramel.

Alright - it's two days after Christmas so maybe it's time to finally sample that fruitcake.

Actually, I enjoy a good fruitcake and there are so many awesome recipes out there. Of course, making them early in December and them allowing them to marinate in booze does tend to improve the experience for me. 😊

On this Boxing Day, maybe it's time to take those candy canes off the tree and sample them because it's "National Candy Cane Day."

I must admit, I am not a fan of the flavor, but I do like using them as holiday decorations. What about you?

Compared to my Thanksgiving feast, this Christmas meal was fairly simple. Tonight I did a baked ham with a sauce made from the cooking juices, rosé wine, beef stock, and the leftover syrup from a jar of Luxardo cherries. For sides I did carrots glazed with a cognac syrup and lima beans simmered in vegetable stock with onions and garlic. I paired it with a Rob McNeill California Brut Rosé NV. Merry Christmas to me.

It's "National Sangria Day."

If you're in the Southern Hemisphere, it makes sense to celebrate that today. Here in the Northern Hemisphere it is the beginning of winter, so it's a bit counter-intuitive. Still, I suppose it's always a good time for sangria, right? 🍷

Do you have a good recipe?

December 19th is "National Hard Candy Day." The photo here shows some seriously old-school candy!

I remember this from my childhood! It reminds me of my grandmother - she always seemed to have some of this specific candy in a crystal candy dish whenever I visited, so it's a nostalgic taste for me.

Haha! I love that this is a thing! It's "National Chocolate Covered Anything Day."

I love anything that involves chocolate with salt - so one of my favorites is potato chips dipped in chocolate. 😋

Don't scoff if you haven't tried it! What's your favorite food to cover with chocolate?

December 14th is "National Bouillabaisse Day." I have the hardest time spelling that! 😇

This is one of my favorite stews and I have had excellent versions using a base of red, white, and rosé wines (not at the same time, obviously). I have never tried making it on my own. Maybe it's time!

Day 60 of 60.

I am a day late getting to this final release of my "60 days to 60" releasing project. I got home late from my birthday dinner and spent today resting and relaxing.

The past 60 days leading up to my 60th birthday have been a fascinating exploration of things that have been cluttering up my life - physically and metaphysically. As I step into this new decade, I find myself in a quiet place of contemplation, thinking about what I truly want to do and how to re-ignite the passion that has been so long missing in my life.

So for this final day of letting go heading into the new decade, I have decided to commit to letting go of expectations. I spend far too much time feeling disappointed because I feel like I have let myself down or that others have let me down. It's usually because I had some kind of unfulfillable expectations of how things were "supposed" to work out.

it's hard to release this life-long habit, but I am going to do my best. Maybe I can get there before I have to do a "70 to 70" countdown.

OMG. Who knew that bread and butter could be this good?

Today is my 60th birthday. It's hard to wrap my brain around the fact that I am this age but having survived the 1980s relatively intact (IYKYK) I suppose I am a survivor. Onward and upward!
