January 12th is "National Marzipan Day." Until I became addicted to "The Great British Baking Show" I honestly don't think I ever gave marzipan much of a thought. It seems like they use it on every single episode in some form or other. My only experience was with the "fruits" shown in this photo.

January 11th is "National Milk Day." True confession - I detest the flavor of milk. Even as a child, my mother had to force me to drink it.

As I got older, I realized that the aversion was my body saying to me, "Don't drink this!" I have a mild allergy to soft dairy and if/when I consume it - well, let's just say that I will go through a half box of tissue in the next hour or so. Yuck.

What about you? Is milk a "yes" or "no"?

It's "National Apricot Day." This is one of my favorite fruits! Until I was an adult, I only encountered these in cans, drowned in corn syrup. Fresh, ripe apricots were a revelation to me the first time I tried them!

Having said that, I do use the canned product in a recipe I concocted involving a butterflied pork tenderloin stuffed with apricots and tarragon. If you come over for dinner, I'll make one for you. 😉
