Imbibe

Imbibe Throwing bi+ community dance parties and events in Boston. Why are we organizing bi+ community events? It's time we change that!

We chose the name Imbibe because writing it starts with "I'm Bi" — and for the drink-me-up sensuality of the word, the feeling of it when speaking or hearing it. Our core event series is a bi+ dance night, but we also plan to host events to build community in other ways include meetups, board game nights, hiking trips, and more. Events are for people who have s*xual and/or romantic orientations un

der the bi+ umbrella, including pan, omni, and other multis*xual identities. We also welcome people questioning if they are part of the bi+ community, and are looking for a safe space to explore that aspect of themselves. Bi+ people face a specific form of oppression, monos*xism, and specific discrimination, biphobia -- in addition to homophobia, and oppression from white supremacy and the gender binary. As a result, on a micro level we frequently encounter microaggressions and exclusion (subtle or explicit) from q***r and cishet groups, known as "double discrimination," and on a macro level, we have worse social, economic, and health outcomes than people with any other s*xual orientation. Despite being the numerical majority of the q***r community, and despite facing this added oppression from monos*xism, we rarely if ever have community and events that center us. Instead, we are expected to find community in groups centering monos*xual gay and le***an experiences, which continues to leave us at the margins. And (as a result of all the above) it just feels nice to be in a group of other bi/pan+ folks. All our events emphasize an ethos of consent as an ongoing practice. We also note that oppression is intersectional, and white supremacy, transphobia, and colonialism disproportionaly impact the bi+ community.

Get your groove on and celebrate with other bi/pan+ folks! Come early to make connection within our friendly community - and then , our local legend and 2S Black Indigenous DJ, will help us ring in Celebrate Bis*xuality+ Day.

Ticket link in bio.

Celebrate Bis*xuality+ Day, later expanded to Bi+ Week (Sept. 16-23), was started by Bi+ activists in 1999 because bi+ folks are often not fully included or recognized in Pride and other q***r spaces, even though we are a plurality of the q***r community and face unique challenges in a society that is monos*xist as well as homophobic. Because of these unique stressors, augmented by our lack of both bi+ community and bi+ identity pride, we have worse mental, physical, and social wellbeing than gay/le***an and straight communities.

Our society's monos*xism, present in our culture at large and q***r subcultures, means we struggle with internal identity development of our innate patterns of desire - so we often spend our lives feeling as if something is wrong with us, incomplete, confused, internalizing the bi-negativity and erasure of our culture. Even when we can name and accept ourselves as bi/pan+, without community and belonging we will struggle to finish identity development process. This is one of the most crucial reasons for bi+ health disparities which range from increased heart attack risk to greater suicidality than monos*xual folks.

Celebrating bis*xuality+ with all of you, forming bi+ community and pride, is an important preventative measure - and also a big joy!

(Reminders: Venue is 21+. We are a trans/nonbinary led space (and the majority of trans people are bi/pan!). Practice consent when interacting with others! Covid, flu, and colds are on the rise; make an informed decision on if this event is right for you, including the health risks of folks you may interact with in the week after. We will host events with lower risk in the future, as well as all-ages events.)

Happy Pride Month! We're thrilled to bring you all our first ever Pride event for Bi/Pan+ folks of all genders.

We're blessed to have the Boston-based, Miami-born DJ P1NO () crafting the soundscape for q***r healing movement throughout the night. Tickets are or $15 at the door or $12 in advance at imbibe-pride.eventbrite.com.

This night is for people who have s*xual or romantic orientations under the bi+ umbrella, including pan, omni, and other multis*xual identities. We also welcome people questioning if they are part of the bi+ community, and are looking for a safe space to explore that aspect of themselves.

We are a trans-led space. Transphobia will not be tolerated.

Why are we organizing bi+ events? We need bi+ community and internalized pride! The bi+ population has worse physical health, mental health, and social outcomes than straight, gay, and le***an populations. A sense of bi+ community and internalized identity pride are the most effective strategies for having positive, direct impact on the well-being of bi+ people. Finding joy and dancing together in a space where we have a sense of belonging and can develop relationships with mutuality, where our innate patterns of s*xual desire are fully understood as positive, allowing us to complete necessary internal identity development processes: this is a major point of Pride!

No longer do we only have affinity spaces for "men who like men" and "women who like women" or "women and femmes" (which leaves out whole swaths of nonbinary people and treads cultural myths of the purity and innocence of (white) women). Now we have Imbibe - a space for people of all genders who have the capacity for attraction to people of more than one gender! Where our q***rness isn't just understood as same s*x attraction, but also as the attraction unlimited by the gender binary, attraction that itself isn't binary, in the myriad of ways that can be.

Love you all and looking forward to celebrating together!

UPDATE! Our Pride Month party is coming up and in a twist of events we're stoked to have DJing! (We hope can join us in the future!)

We truly can't wait for our first ever Bi+ Pride party on June 30th - early bird tickets are available now at imbibe-pride.eventbrite.com. Thanks for helping us be able to pay our DJs well and throw events for the bi+ community - we couldn't do it without your $ support. If ticket price is an obstacle, reach out and we'd love to find a volunteer role for you :)

As always, all our DJs are members of the diverse bi/pan+ non-monos*xual q***r community. We also strive to platform trans/nonbinary DJs and Black, Brown, and Indigenous DJs. If you'd like to put any bi+ DJs on our radar, let us know!

For Bi+ Health Month, we're having another bi/pan+ community night at for mingling and dancing! Bi DJ .bi.blaire will be hitting the decks to give us dulcet tones to groove to. Ticket link in bio.

Did you know bi+ have the worse health outcomes of any s*xuality group? It's probably due to the constant stress and pressure from monos*xism and biphobia intersecting with all aspects of our lives. Having community with other bi+ people has been correlated with improvements in the mental and physical health of our community! So drop on bi, make some friends, and dance it out!
/
This night is for people who have s*xual and/or romantic orientations under the bi+ umbrella, including pan, omni, and other multis*xual identities. We welcome people questioning if they are part of the bi+ community, and are looking for a safe space to explore that aspect of themselves. Monos*xual friends are welcome to accompany bi+ folks — just keep in mind this space is for the bi+ community in a way we don't experience in our daily lives.
/
Like all q***r folks, we too often have our q***rness erased in cishet spaces. However, q***r spaces often fall short too. It's as if our q***rness is seen as "just a part" of us, a part that is described as only our ability to be attracted to members of the same gender and made to be separate from the rest of our being; it's expected that if that fictionalized, cut-off "part" of us is "seen" and given space, then our q***rness will be seen and given space. Instead our q***rness includes our whole self and our inability and refusal to have a binary, either/or s*xuality. The missing niche of Bi+ social spaces, for people of all genders, provides a community where we can feel radically seen and safe, in our whole, beautiful, messy, nuanced q***rness.
/
Covid precautions: Please take a rapid test the evening of the event, or a PCR test within 24 hours prior, and stay home if you have a positive result. If you have recent symptoms (even mild ones), stay home regardless of test result, as it can take ~3 days after symptoms start to test positive.

Hello from Imbibe's co-founders, and !

After a brief hiatus, we're excited to restart regular events from Imbibe in 2023 - starting with a Bi Night on March 31st at Union Tavern (check our story for the last few hours of the early bird ticket link)!

About us: Kylie (she/they) is a trans femme museum/library-based educator and artist (theatre, dance, and digital mediums) studying to be a mental health counselor. Suzie (she/her) is a transit planner and performer (including, but not limited to, stand-up comedy, burlesque, music and theatre). We're both karaoke enthusiasts. And we're excited to continue to get to know you all!

We started Imbibe in July 2022 after realizes that there hadn't been specific parties for Bi+ people during Pride Month - or any time - the way there were specific parties for gay and le***an folks.

We'd gotten so much from our own bi friendships, and the healing nature of being around each other (and other bi people) highlighted the monos*xism we experience in most other spaces. Data and anecdotes time and again show how having community with other bi+ folks increases our self-acceptance and improves outcomes for social, emotional, and even physical wellbeing. While Boston has a long history of bi advocacy, it's been missing some of the events we personally wanted - like going to a bar surrounded by bi+ people or enjoying bi+ performing artists.

We wanted to be able to go out to a club or a show and for a night to not only avoid monos*xism, but also be met with overt bi+ celebration and joy. Where we could revel in bi4bi energy (platonic, romantic, or otherwise) and pan paradises, whether or not we're confused, messy, needy, greedy, promiscuous, or unable to chose. So we decided to start throwing the kind of events we'd want to go to! We've been overwhelmed by the amount of support we've received.

We recognize too that there are still many kinds of bi+ events that don't exist yet. If there's something you want to organize for bi+ folks in Boston, we'd be happy to share information about it - the more bi+ organizers & community spaces, the merrier!

Bye for now, and bi for always - KTB & SB

Let's dance!

tickets: imbibe-dance.eventbrite.com

Join us for our first dance party!

August 19, 8pm-1am at Union Tavern

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

This night is for people who have s*xual and/or romantic orientations under the bi+ umbrella, including pan, omni, and other multis*xual identities. We also welcome people questioning if they are part of the bi+ community, and are looking for a safe space to explore that aspect of themselves. Monos*xual partners and friends are welcome to accompany bi+ folks — just keep in mind this space is to center the bi+ community in a way we don't experience in our daily lives.

Why are we organizing bi+ community events?

Bi+ people face a specific form of oppression, monos*xism, and specific discrimination, biphobia, in addition to experiencing homophobia and oppression from white supremacy and the gender binary.

It's time we change that!

And (as a result of all the above) it just feels nice to be in a group of other bi/pan+ folks!
