In this week of giving thanks, we are grateful to all the artists, crew and volunteers who came together and worked selflessly to bring Rasik’s vision to life, with no promise of a fixed compensation or monetary returns. With the support and generosity of everyone who purchased a ticket and attended the concerts and also Mass Cultural Council, we were able to compensate all artists and vendors and pull off a successful season that had started with no resources and a blank slate. But we would like to do a better job of it, and continue to create more opportunities to witness high quality live dance in the Greater Boston area.

Introducing the performers in Rasik inaugural performance. Performing Odissi on October 19: Priya Bangal

Priya Bangal is a dancer of Odissi, a classical dance from the Eastern Indian state of Odisha. She has performed Odissi at various venues across Massachusetts such as the Boston Center for the Arts, Jose Mateo Ballet Theater, Somerville Theater, Provincetown Dance Festival, Arts at the Armory and the Dance Complex. Her recent work at NACHMO Boston 2022 was described by the Dance Informa magazine as having “an easeful quality” and “beautiful intricacy”.

Priya has trained extensively in Odissi Dance. In 2018, Priya was awarded the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, to study Odissi under Master Artist Shipra Mehrotra based in Norfolk, MA under whom, she continues to train on a regular basis. In January 2023, Priya received support from the Public Art Learning Fund at NEFA for an intensive study of Odissi Dance in Odisha, India. Priya also conducts introductory classes, workshops and lecture-demonstrations to share her love for Odissi with a wide audience.

With an aim to encourage a holistic cultural environment for Indian arts in Boston, Priya has co-founded Samvād, a forum that facilitates informal interaction between practitioners of Indian dance and music.
