Thanks to all who have sent their congratulations and well wishes on the announcement of my latest venture, Amped Up Events, yesterday. I did get a few questions like, "Al, you're nearly 70 years old, what the hell are you doing?", so I have a little story I'd like to tell.

Susan and I did what we were supposed to do. We retired, sold house, bought a condo, and moved to Florida. We love our condo, we love Florida but we, and especially me, were a little bored.

So I took a part-time job as the manager of a small theater, the Ramon Theater in Frostproof, FL. My job was to book bands for the concerts they hosted weekly during season, maintain their website and social media presence, market and promote those concerts, and put people in those seats. I love it and, as it turns out, I'm pretty darn good at it too.

But the Ramon only has 300 seats and I soon discovered that there was a limit on how expensive a band you could book and still be able to make a little money to support the theater. And I also discovered that there were a lot of really good bands that I knew people would love to hear but were just too expensive to work for the Ramon.

And that's when Amped Up Events was really born. It took a few months to find the right theater to rent, make contact with those bands and make a schedule that would work. Many of you know Susan and I lived in Bradenton, FL for 10 years and that's where we found our theater. The SCF Neel Performing Arts Center seats 830 patrons is perfect for what I wanted to do. And know we've scheduled one show for later this summer and 3 shows for January, February, and March of 2025.
