If you like history, read this!👇
People always ask us, where does the name “The Laundry” come from. Well, here’s the nearly 150 year old story.
Stepping into The Laundry Event Hall is like taking a journey through time. Built in 1883, this historic building started off as a flour, grain, and cotton warehouse, with a laundry positioned on the north side of the building.
In 1891 it was listed as the “Brenham Pulp Factory” and RE-listed again in 1896 as a steam laundry.
In 1901 it transformed again into a furniture warehouse, and by the end of the decade it was used as a grocery store.
From the 1930’s all the way up to the 2000’s the building was operated, once again, as a laundry building under various owners. It served as the laundry and dry cleaner for the St. Anthony Hotel as well as the local area.
After being vacant for quite some time, the building was scheduled for demolition, until John Elford purchased it in 2016 and completely overhauled the entire building, turning it into 4-Star Concert Hall. This became a hub for live entertainment in downtown Brenham until John’s passing in 2022.
In 2023, the building changed hands once again to Adrienne and Brent Schwartz, and the building began its next transformation into what you see today, The Laundry Event Hall.
The Laundry building has been many things over the years, and has passed through many loving and caring hands. We’re thrilled and honored to be apart of its legacy, and we hope to share it’s incredible story and the rich history of Brenham with so many more! Cheers to many more years of The Laundry🥂✨
